Pantone™ PMS 8500 C

Surface preparation is essential for good adhesion and long-term performance, and a suitable primer is typically recommended for non-porous or metallic substrates. For best results in high-traffic or exposed environments, consider adding a compatible clear topcoat to protect the metallic effect and maintain color appearance. The environment and handling of your branded element (indoors vs outdoors, amount of interaction) will determine how much protection is needed. Always select the paint and topcoat system that aligns with your project's durability requirements.

Proper surface preparation is critical for a successful PMS 8500 C finish. Start by thoroughly cleaning the surface to remove dust, grease, and any contaminants. For most materials, degrease and lightly scuff smooth surfaces to improve adhesion, but avoid using harsh abrasives that could alter the substrate texture. It is recommended to perform a test application on a small, inconspicuous area to confirm adhesion and appearance before full-scale work. Let the surface dry completely before painting for the best results.

PMS 8500 C is a standardized Pantone color code used to communicate a specific color target, but it does not directly convert to colors in other paint brand collections. Most paint brands have unique palettes, and cross-referencing is rarely exact, especially for metallic or saturated Pantone hues like PMS 8500 C. If your project requires alignment with the PMS 8500 C color, it is best to use a paint system matched specifically to that Pantone reference instead of substituting from another brand's standard offerings.

The decision between matte and gloss for PMS 8500 C depends on how you want the metallic effect and brand color to present in your environment. Gloss finishes increase saturation and visual punch but can create glare under bright lighting, which may interfere with viewing at certain angles. Matte finishes minimize glare and help maintain a consistent look across viewing conditions but can reduce the strength of the metallic effect. Consider the viewing distance, lighting, and the intended brand impact when making your decision. Test samples in the actual lighting whenever possible for confidence before full production.

Some manufacturers specify Pantone colors as touch up for their products, but Pantone does not work well as a proxy for a touch-up solution (for a litany of reasons such as it doesn't include sheen and Pantone color tolerances are not tight enough for touch up). When we match Pantone colors we are matching to a swatch in a Pantone book - not to your product.

The only way we can provide a touch-up solution for your product is for you send us a part. We would use the part to create a touch-up grade match. Unfortunately, there isn't an effective way to 'spec' the color well enough to produce a touch up without the part.

The 11oz spray will cover about 20 square feet per coat. Keep in mind that it is difficult to gauge how much spray you'll need as it is highly dependent on how it is applied. It is better to have too much than run short.

We've found that every paint company offers its own unique selection of colors and rarely does a color have an exact equivalent in another company's color collection, especially for a color collection like Pantone which is designed for bright colors and inks.
