PMS 627 C is a Pantone Matching System (PMS) standard color characterized by its extremely dark appearance and cool, sophisticated tone. The color provides an authoritative, technical, subdued, and stable visual impression. Listed under the Pantone PMS system, it is grounded in applications where precise, branded color specification is critical.

PMS 627 C appears very dark, with a low level of light reflectance (LRV 1.91). The color has a distinctly cool temperature, with visible green and blue undertones. This color demonstrates low to moderate chroma, resulting in a restrained, less saturated appearance compared to vivid greens. A subtle blue-green undertone is notable, especially under direct lighting. PMS 627 C is sensitive to surface finish; higher gloss may reveal more depth, while matte finishes can mute complexity.

PMS 627 C is most effective on signage, display elements, and fixtures where a very dark, cool green is specified for consistent brand representation. Accurate substrate prep and finish selection are important, as insufficient hiding may occur due to its darkness and potential pigment loading. Lighting can cause the color to shift toward black or reveal underlying undertones, so color approval and sample review in final lighting conditions are strongly advised. Compared to other dark greens, PMS 627 C maintains a distinctly cooler and more technical presence.

Similar colors:
PMS 5535 C – Slightly lighter and marginally warmer, but maintains a deep green character.

PMS 553 C – Noticeably less dark and more vibrant, appearing greener under standard lighting.

PMS 546 C – Remains dark but leans more toward a blue-black, providing a less green effect.

PMS 3308 C – More chromatic and vibrant, with a stronger emerald undertone and lighter appearance.

Frequently Asked Questions About Pantone™ PMS 627 C

What kinds of projects typically specify Pantone PMS 627 C for branding or display purposes?

Pantone PMS 627 C is often chosen for signage, display elements, and fixtures where a very dark, cool green is critical to achieving precise brand identity. Brands and organizations seeking a technical, stable, and subdued presence may call out PMS 627 C for consistent execution across event, retail, and exhibit components. Confirm your project requirements and review physical samples, as color appearance may shift with substrate and finish.

Do I need a primer when painting with Pantone PMS 627 C matched paint?

Whether a primer is needed for Pantone PMS 627 C depends on the substrate, paint type, and conditions. For bare materials or surfaces with poor adhesion, a primer is recommended to promote coverage and color consistency, especially with such a dark green. Primers are usually necessary on metal, wood, plastics, and previously coated surfaces that show signs of wear or inconsistent finishes. Consult substrate and paint compatibility guidance for your application to ensure proper adhesion and true color results.

How does changing the finish affect the appearance of PMS 627 C?

Altering the gloss or sheen when using PMS 627 C can noticeably affect how dark or complex the color appears. Higher gloss finishes may bring out more depth and strengthen blue-green undertones, while matte finishes can make the color appear flatter and less vibrant. For brand consistency, always evaluate and approve finish alongside the color, and compare samples under intended lighting before ordering for large projects.

What should I consider when applying PMS 627 C to metal or powder-coated surfaces?

When painting metal or powder-coated parts with PMS 627 C, thorough surface preparation is important for proper adhesion and appearance. Clean and scuff glossy or existing coatings to help the new layer bond. Prior finishes, surface texture, and existing gloss can cause the color to look different from chips or samples. Always test on a sample or control panel before committing to full production, as substrate and finish variations can influence color perception.

How quickly will I receive my paint matched to Pantone PMS 627 C?
All paint is custom-made to order. While most orders ship within 48 hours, the lead-time for paint made to match Pantone PMS 627 C depends on the type of paint needed. Interior and exterior house paints usually ship within 1 to 3 business days, while custom spray paint typically takes 3-5 business days to ship. Can I use the Pantone PMS 627 C for touch up?

Unfortunately, no.

Some manufacturers specify Pantone colors as touch up for their products, but Pantone does not work well as a proxy for a touch-up solution (for a litany of reasons such as it doesn't include sheen and Pantone color tolerances are not tight enough for touch up). When we match Pantone colors we are matching to a swatch in a Pantone book - not to your product.

The only way we can provide a touch-up solution for your product is for you send us a part. We would use the part to create a touch-up grade match. Unfortunately, there isn't an effective way to 'spec' the color well enough to produce a touch up without the part.
