Pantone® PMS 546 C. Paint And Spray Paint. MyPerfectColor is the official licensee of Pantone and authorized to reproduce the Pantone Matching System colors in spray paint and other paints.

PMS 546 C from the Pantone PMS collection is a distinctly dark blue-green with a cool, muted appearance and a technical, understated vibe. The color is commonly described as restrained, authoritative, and modern, with very low visible reflectance. Its finish coloration behavior and suitability for precise, color-consistent branding environments make it a practical choice for organizations seeking visual impact without vividness.

PMS 546 C appears very dark, with a low light reflectance value (LRV 2.75), resulting in minimal visual brightness. The color visually reads as cool due to its blue-green composition and dominant blue undertone. PMS 546 C exhibits low to moderate chroma, giving it a subdued and muted saturation rather than high color intensity. The undertone is a balanced combination of blue and green, with a more pronounced blue influence in most viewing environments. The color is sensitive to finish; higher-gloss finishes can enhance depth and richness, while matte finishes further mute the tone and reduce color impact.

PMS 546 C is frequently specified in brand identity systems for corporate, academic, or technology sector organizations seeking a strong, non-flashy primary or secondary brand color. This color is often used in environmental graphics, branded displays, and trade show components where consistent color recognition is critical.

PMS 546 C functions best where a sophisticated, authoritative presence is needed, or where branding guidelines require subdued, consistent color performance. The very low LRV means it appears almost black in low light or when applied to large surfaces. It is important to evaluate color approval samples under final lighting conditions, as the balance of blue and green may shift between artificial and natural light. Finish selection will alter the apparent depth and "richness" of the color; gloss or semi-gloss will make it appear deeper and more saturated, while flat finishes will reduce this effect. Compared to other dark blue-greens, PMS 546 C is more muted and less likely to show strong chromatic variation under varying light.

The following examples reflect commonly cited branding associations and are based on publicly referenced design usage; they are illustrative, not exhaustive or exclusive. PMS 546 C is widely cited as a core palette color in the branding standards for organizations in the technology and higher education sectors. Commonly referenced in design literature as one of the preferred deep blue-greens for global financial and consulting firms seeking a conservative, modern aesthetic.

Frequently Asked Questions About Pantone™ PMS 546 C

What is the best way to compare Pantone PMS 546 C paint samples for approval?

When comparing PMS 546 C samples for approval, always evaluate the samples under the same lighting conditions you expect in the final environment. Use the same substrate material for all samples, and allow all coatings to fully dry or cure before making a final judgment. Differences in lighting, substrate, or dry time can cause PMS 546 C to appear darker or shift slightly between blue and green, so consistency is key to accurate approval.

Do I need a special undercoat or multiple coats when painting with Pantone PMS 546 C?

Pantone PMS 546 C is a very dark, subdued blue-green with low light reflectance. While it is less vivid than other bright Pantone colors, coverage can still be an issue if applied over light surfaces or uneven backgrounds. For best results, consider using a dark-colored undercoat close to PMS 546 C or a uniform neutral gray to improve consistency and reduce the number of coats needed. Always test on your actual substrate, and plan for additional coats if complete hiding is critical to your project.

How do I ensure I order the correct Pantone PMS 546 C color and not a similar one?

To avoid confusion when ordering, always use the full Pantone code 'PMS 546 C' rather than only the color name. The code specifies the exact color target in the Pantone Matching System and helps eliminate mistakes with similar shades. Pay attention to any suffix or series details such as the 'C' (coated) which differentiates PMS 546 C from other finishes like U (uncoated). If your branding guidelines require a specific version, always confirm the code before ordering.

When is it appropriate to order a standard Pantone PMS 546 C paint match?

Ordering a standard Pantone PMS 546 C paint match is appropriate for most marketing, display, exhibit, and prototype applications where the Pantone reference itself is the required color standard. If your project needs to visually align with brand guidelines or match other display elements using PMS 546 C, the standard match is usually correct. However, for permanent installations or multi-material environments, consider verifying appearance with a sample under your actual lighting and substrate before finalizing large orders.

How quickly will I receive my paint matched to Pantone PMS 546 C?
All paint is custom-made to order. While most orders ship within 48 hours, the lead-time for paint made to match Pantone PMS 546 C depends on the type of paint needed. Interior and exterior house paints usually ship within 1 to 3 business days, while custom spray paint typically takes 3-5 business days to ship. The transit time depends on your location and the shipping method you choose. If your need is immediate, select Expedited Production during checkout. Can I use the Pantone PMS 546 C for touch up?

Unfortunately, no.

Some manufacturers specify Pantone colors as touch up for their products, but Pantone does not work well as a proxy for a touch-up solution (for a litany of reasons such as it doesn't include sheen and Pantone color tolerances are not tight enough for touch up). When we match Pantone colors we are matching to a swatch in a Pantone book - not to your product.

The only way we can provide a touch-up solution for your product is for you send us a part. We would use the part to create a touch-up grade match. Unfortunately, there isn't an effective way to 'spec' the color well enough to produce a touch up without the part.

While MyPerfectColor can provide PMS 546 C in paint, we don't provide any crossover information.
