PMS 5875 C is a Pantone Matching System (PMS) color known for its soft, desaturated appearance with a perceptible yellow-green hue. Within the Pantone PMS system, it serves as a reliable reference in design and production environments that require consistent color reproduction. The overall vibe of this color is muted, understated, calm, and natural, with a low-key, corporate-neutral aesthetic.

PMS 5875 C appears light in value (measured LRV 66.01). The color shows a cool bias due to its green influence, balanced by a moderate yellow note. It exhibits low to moderate chroma, resulting in a muted and subdued visual effect. The undertone is grassy with olive or subtle khaki notes, influenced by the proportion of yellow and green. The color can shift slightly in warmth or intensity depending on the finish and ambient light; matte or flat finishes further mute the effect.

PMS 5875 C works well as a supporting or background color in visual identity systems where a quiet, non-intrusive appearance is required. It is suitable for environments where branding must remain present but understated, such as wayfinding signage, interior graphics, or low-contrast display elements. Designers should be aware that lighting—particularly cool or fluorescent light—can enhance the green undertone, while warm lighting can bring out more of the yellow quality. This color is less likely to show strong metamerism compared to highly chromatic yellows and greens, but verifying the sample under intended light conditions is still recommended. Compared to similar colors, PMS 5875 C is noticeably softer and less saturated, making it better suited for large areas where a more subdued effect is needed.

Similar colors:
PMS 587 C: Lighter and slightly more yellow than PMS 5875 C, which gives a fresher, less muted appearance.

PMS 580 C: Darker and more olive-toned, creating a more pronounced green-gray character.

PMS 578 C: Warmer and softer, with less of the subtle green present in PMS 5875 C.

Frequently Asked Questions About Pantone™ PMS 5875 C

How can lighting conditions affect the appearance of Pantone PMS 5875 C?

The appearance of PMS 5875 C can change noticeably depending on the type and intensity of lighting in the final environment. For example, cool or fluorescent lighting can make the green undertones more prominent, while warmer lighting can shift the color toward yellow. Evaluating your sample of Pantone PMS 5875 C under the exact lighting where it will be displayed is essential to confirm it meets your brand and visual requirements.

What is the best way to apply spray paint matched to PMS 5875 C for display or branding use?

For Pantone PMS 5875 C, applying several light coats of spray paint and allowing each coat to dry before applying the next will deliver more consistent color and a smoother finish. Avoid heavy, wet coats, as they may increase the risk of runs and uneven coverage. This approach is especially important for lighter or muted colors like PMS 5875 C to achieve clean, even results suitable for branding and visual display applications.

What should I consider when comparing samples of Pantone PMS 5875 C for approval?

When comparing paint samples or finished items in PMS 5875 C, view them under the same lighting and on the same type of substrate you will use in your final project. Make sure that the coatings are fully dry and cured before making a color judgment, since brightness and hue can shift during the drying process. This will help ensure your brand color is evaluated accurately and consistently across approvals.

Should I choose a matte or gloss finish for PMS 5875 C when ordering for branding applications?

For PMS 5875 C, a matte or flat finish will reduce glare and further soften the muted color, which can be helpful for large areas or where subtlety is needed. A gloss finish will make the color appear more intense and can create greater visual punch, but may introduce reflections, especially under strong lighting. Consider the intended viewing distance, lighting, and the level of visual impact you want to achieve when selecting your finish for brand or display work.

Can I use the Pantone PMS 5875 C for touch up?

Unfortunately, no.

Some manufacturers specify Pantone colors as touch up for their products, but Pantone does not work well as a proxy for a touch-up solution (for a litany of reasons such as it doesn't include sheen and Pantone color tolerances are not tight enough for touch up). When we match Pantone colors we are matching to a swatch in a Pantone book - not to your product.

The only way we can provide a touch-up solution for your product is for you send us a part. We would use the part to create a touch-up grade match. Unfortunately, there isn't an effective way to 'spec' the color well enough to produce a touch up without the part.
