PMS 5747 C, part of the Pantone Matching System, presents a deep, low-light-value green with a distinctly muted, organic vibe. It reads as restrained, professional, grounded, and utilitarian. The color is characterized by its low brightness and strong earthy undertone, making it suitable for applications where a subdued, reliable green is needed for brand and environmental specification.

PMS 5747 C appears very dark; it has a low light reflectance value (LRV: 5.46). The color exhibits a cool-leaning, muted olive green appearance. PMS 5747 C is moderately saturated for an olive, with a noticeable but controlled chroma. The undertone is earthy, with an emphasis on green over yellow, but without vividness. The color may show increased depth and subtlety in matte or low-sheen finishes.

PMS 5747 C works well in environmental branding, base colors for signage, and display applications where a deep, muted green is required. Its appearance can shift depending on finish; glossier surfaces may make the color read slightly richer or deeper, while matte finishes reinforce its subdued character. In spaces with low or warm lighting, it may appear almost black or brownish, so verify the color under intended illumination and finish. PMS 5747 C is less prone to visible surface preparation issues than lighter, more chromatic greens but may require careful review for coverage when applied over high-contrast substrates.

Similar colors:
PMS 5535 C is slightly darker and more neutral, appearing less green in comparison.

PMS 560 C is a bit lighter and reads warmer and less muted.

PMS 5743 C is similar in saturation but noticeably darker with an almost black-green appearance.

PMS 5757 C is lighter and less muted, providing a more traditional olive green look.

Frequently Asked Questions About Pantone™ PMS 5747 C

What are the best practices for evaluating PMS 5747 C color samples during the approval process?

When comparing PMS 5747 C samples for approval, always view each sample under the same lighting conditions, ideally the lighting used at the final installation site. Use the same substrate type and finish as the end project to avoid unwanted color shifts. Make sure coated samples are fully dry and cured before making judgments, as wet or partially cured paint may appear darker or glossier than the final result. This approach helps you make reliable approval decisions and minimizes unexpected variation in the final environment.

What should I consider when using PMS 5747 C to paint metal or powder-coated surfaces?

For PMS 5747 C on metal or powder-coated surfaces, thorough preparation is critical for color accuracy and durability. Clean and scuff the surface to help the paint adhere well, and address any existing coatings, gloss, or texture that might influence the perceived color. Be aware that surface sheen and finish differences can cause PMS 5747 C to appear either richer or more muted. It is best to test a sample on the actual substrate and finish to confirm the final color appearance before full production.

How do I select the right paint type for PMS 5747 C in interior versus exterior applications?

To ensure PMS 5747 C meets project expectations, choose the paint type based on location and performance needs. For interior branding, use interior-grade paints in the preferred finish, such as matte or gloss, depending on the look and environmental conditions. For exterior projects or signs, select an exterior-rated paint that withstands weather and UV exposure. Mismatching paint type to environment can cause fading or premature failure, so confirm your use case before ordering.

Why is PMS 5747 C specified for brand experience and marketing use?

PMS 5747 C is a standardized Pantone Matching System color used in brand programs to ensure a consistent and recognizable appearance across displays, signage, and environments. By specifying PMS 5747 C, brands achieve visual consistency throughout all materials and installations, supporting a unified and professional presence. Using the Pantone reference ensures everyone in the production chain is targeting the same color standard, which is critical for brand alignment and marketing impact.

Can I use the Pantone PMS 5747 C for touch up?

Unfortunately, no.

Some manufacturers specify Pantone colors as touch up for their products, but Pantone does not work well as a proxy for a touch-up solution (for a litany of reasons such as it doesn't include sheen and Pantone color tolerances are not tight enough for touch up). When we match Pantone colors we are matching to a swatch in a Pantone book - not to your product.

The only way we can provide a touch-up solution for your product is for you send us a part. We would use the part to create a touch-up grade match. Unfortunately, there isn't an effective way to 'spec' the color well enough to produce a touch up without the part.
