Pantone® PMS 557 C . Paint And Spray Paint. MyPerfectColor is the official licensee of Pantone and authorized to reproduce the Pantone Matching System colors in spray paint and other paints.

PMS 557 C is part of the Pantone Matching System (Pantone PMS), a widely used industry standard for specifying precise, repeatable colors in branding, design, and manufacturing contexts. This color projects a calm, subdued, refined, and contemporary vibe, with undertones that lean toward the cool end of the green spectrum. With an LRV of 45.16, it occupies a mid-range brightness, making it visually assertive without being harsh or overpowering.

PMS 557 C exhibits a medium lightness, providing a balanced presence on most surfaces (LRV 45.16).

The color presents a distinctly cool tendency, with its hue angle close to blue-green.

PMS 557 C demonstrates moderate chroma, meaning it is not overly vibrant; the saturation is restrained for a more sophisticated look.

The undertone leans toward a muted, blue-inflected green, which helps it appear tranquil rather than lively.

The color can show slight finish sensitivity; glossy finishes may enhance its subtle blue undertone, while matte finishes will further mute its appearance.

PMS 557 C works well for projects that require a controlled, subtle green—a choice often preferred in branding environments aiming for understated distinction. It performs reliably in most lighting conditions, but the cool undertone may become more pronounced under cool or fluorescent lighting. When considering surface finish, note that higher gloss can make the green read slightly brighter and cooler, while matte finishes retain its understated quality. Compared to other PMS greens, PMS 557 C is less saturated and less vivid, resulting in a more mature or natural visual effect.

Similar colors:

  • PMS 558 C: Slightly lighter and with a more pronounced blue overtone, creating a fresher appearance.
  • PMS 556 C: Marginally darker and more muted, giving a deeper and more understated look.
  • PMS 5645 C: More neutral and less chromatic, resulting in a softer, less green result.

Frequently Asked Questions About Pantone™ PMS 557 C

What should I consider when specifying Pantone PMS 557 C for a pop-up or retail environment?

When using Pantone PMS 557 C in pop-up or retail settings, assess durability, lighting, and surface finish before committing to large installations. Test samples of PMS 557 C under the actual lighting conditions and on the intended substrate to confirm that the cool green performs as expected. Durability and ease of cleaning can vary depending on finish; higher gloss may offer easier maintenance but alter the perceived color. Always confirm acceptance of the match before final production, especially in high-visibility applications.

How can I achieve a uniform appearance when applying Pantone PMS 557 C over a large area?

For large surface projects using Pantone PMS 557 C, plan for consistent application technique and the appropriate number of coats. PMS 557 C has moderate coverage, so uneven application can lead to visible patchiness or inconsistent color. Use a uniform substrate and apply paint in controlled sections, maintaining a wet edge. Always allow each coat to dry fully before applying another, and work under consistent lighting to catch any irregularities early in the process.

What challenges should I expect when matching Pantone PMS 557 C to paint, and how does MyPerfectColor address them?

Accurately matching Pantone PMS 557 C to paint requires careful color formulation, as finish, substrate, and lighting can affect how the color is perceived. The standardized PMS 557 C code specifies a visual color target, not a paint formula, so some variation is possible between materials. MyPerfectColor uses color matching equipment and quality control processes to target the PMS 557 C reference as closely as possible, but sampling on the actual substrate and under project lighting is recommended for critical applications.

Are there special considerations for using Pantone PMS 557 C on plastics or low energy surfaces?

Painting plastics or low energy surfaces with Pantone PMS 557 C matched paint often requires additional preparation steps to ensure proper adhesion and durability. Many plastics will need a compatible primer, and not all plastics respond the same way. Always test PMS 557 C on the actual material in your application before full production to validate adhesion and finish. This minimizes the risk of color or adhesion issues in the final installation.

How quickly will I receive my paint matched to Pantone PMS 557 C?
All paint is custom-made to order. While most orders ship within 48 hours, the lead-time for paint made to match Pantone PMS 557 C depends on the type of paint needed. Interior and exterior house paints usually ship within 1 to 3 business days, while custom spray paint typically takes 3-5 business days to ship. The transit time depends on your location and the shipping method you choose. If your need is immediate, select Expedited Production during checkout. Most expedited production orders ship within 24 hours on business days. Please contact MyPerfectColor if you are concerned about a specific deadline. We do our best to make sure you get your paint on time. Learn more about paint lead times at MyPerfectColor.
Can I use the Pantone PMS 557 C for touch up?

Unfortunately, no.

Some manufacturers specify Pantone colors as touch up for their products, but Pantone does not work well as a proxy for a touch-up solution (for a litany of reasons such as it doesn't include sheen and Pantone color tolerances are not tight enough for touch up). When we match Pantone colors we are matching to a swatch in a Pantone book - not to your product.

The only way we can provide a touch-up solution for your product is for you send us a part. We would use the part to create a touch-up grade match. Unfortunately, there isn't an effective way to 'spec' the color well enough to produce a touch up without the part.

To make spray paint matched to Pantone PMS 557 C. MyPerfectColor uses an acrylic enamel which is a fast-drying durable coating suitable for interior or exterior use. MyPerfectColor custom spray paint enables you to conveniently achieve a professional spray-smooth finish in any color in any sheen. Do I need a primer for Pantone PMS 557 C?
The need for primer for Pantone PMS 557 C depends on the type of paint, the substrate being painted and where it will be located. See our Primer Selection Table to see what primer you might need and learn more about when you might need a primer. Most people don't use a primer for a touch up paint application, but a primer may improve adhesion and is typically recommended for exterior applications.
How do I convert PMS 557 C to a different color from another paint company?

While MyPerfectColor can provide PMS 557 C in paint, we don't provide any crossover information. We've found that every paint company offers its own unique selection of colors and rarely does a color have an exact equivalent in another company's color collection, especially for a color collection like Pantone which is designed for bright colors and inks.
