Pantone® PMS 5405 C . Paint And Spray Paint. MyPerfectColor is the official licensee of Pantone and authorized to reproduce the Pantone Matching System colors in spray paint and other paints.

PMS 5405 C (Pantone PMS system) is a muted slate blue with a distinctly cool and subdued vibe, reading as reserved, professional, and technical. The color sits in the blue family with a grayish cast and moderate chroma, resulting in a refined and contemporary visual impression. Its lower light reflectance gives it a deeper, more understated appearance, often favored in brand palettes seeking a balance of color identity and approachability.

PMS 5405 C appears as a dark, muted blue with an LRV of 11.25, making it relatively low in reflectance and visually deeper than many blues.

The color has a cool tendency, enhanced by its blue-gray undertones.

This color is moderately saturated but deliberately subdued compared to more vivid corporate blues.

PMS 5405 C carries subtle gray undertones, reducing its chromatic intensity and contributing to its sophisticated, understated look.

The color can exhibit increased depth or flatness depending on finish; matte or eggshell finishes reinforce its muted nature, while glossier finishes may introduce a slight increase in perceived richness.

PMS 5405 C is often effective when a brand or project requires a quietly authoritative blue that does not overpower, serving well in professional environments, technology-driven settings, and display elements where a calm yet distinct identity is required. It is advisable to evaluate this color in the intended finish and lighting conditions, as lower LRV blues can appear even deeper under indirect or warm lighting. Compared to more chromatic or neutral blues, PMS 5405 C will read as cooler and more reserved, but less stark and bold than pure or primary blues.

Similar colors:

  • PMS 7545 C – Slightly darker and more neutral, with even more gray influence and less chromatic presence.
  • PMS 5483 C – Lighter and cooler, with a softer, more pastel impression and higher visual brightness.
  • PMS 5425 C – Lighter with a subtle shift toward a dustier blue-gray, less saturated than PMS 5405 C.

Frequently Asked Questions About Pantone™ PMS 5405 C

What are the best practices for approving a PMS 5405 C color sample before finalizing production?

To ensure accurate approval of a PMS 5405 C color sample, compare samples under consistent lighting that matches the environment in which the final product will be used. Always evaluate the color on the same substrate and in the finish intended for the project, as sheen and texture can significantly alter perceived color. Be sure any coating is fully dry and cured before making your final judgment, since PMS 5405 C may appear deeper or flatter before it has settled. Following these steps helps ensure the approved sample reflects real-world appearance and supports consistent brand representation.

Which product formats can I order for Pantone PMS 5405 C, and how do I choose the right one for my project?

Pantone PMS 5405 C is available in spray paint, paint pens, brush-in-cap bottles, and other paint formats used for branding and display applications. Select the format based on your project's needs: spray paint works well for even coverage of larger or three-dimensional surfaces, paint pens suit detail work or small graphics, and brush-in-cap bottles allow for hand-painted elements and sampling. Always confirm format compatibility with your intended substrate and finish requirements to maintain brand consistency and visual accuracy.

Why might Pantone PMS 5405 C look different on various materials, and how should I evaluate the color across substrates?

Pantone PMS 5405 C may appear different across materials because factors like absorption, surface texture, and reflectivity change the way the color is perceived. For accurate results, always test PMS 5405 C directly on the same substrate and with the same finish that will be used in your final build. This helps ensure brand consistency, especially if your project uses multiple materials or finishes. Adjustments may be necessary if visual approval is critical for display, signage, or branded elements.

What should I consider regarding shipping times when ordering Pantone PMS 5405 C paint?

Shipping times for Pantone PMS 5405 C paint depend on your location and the shipping option you select at checkout. Custom paint orders may require extra lead time for mixing and processing. To avoid project delays, factor in both production and transit times, and plan ahead when PMS 5405 C is needed for brand launches, display installations, or event deadlines. Always build in a buffer for critical timelines to ensure timely delivery.

Can I use the Pantone PMS 5405 C for touch up?

Unfortunately, no.

Some manufacturers specify Pantone colors as touch up for their products, but Pantone does not work well as a proxy for a touch-up solution (for a litany of reasons such as it doesn't include sheen and Pantone color tolerances are not tight enough for touch up). When we match Pantone colors we are matching to a swatch in a Pantone book - not to your product.

The only way we can provide a touch-up solution for your product is for you send us a part. We would use the part to create a touch-up grade match. Unfortunately, there isn't an effective way to 'spec' the color well enough to produce a touch up without the part.
