PMS 519 C is a Pantone Matching System (PMS) standard color, recognized in the Pantone PMS collection. The color presents a dark, saturated purple with a cool, sophisticated vibe. It is often described as bold, impactful, technical, contemporary, and controlled. The low LRV of 4.75 indicates it is visually dense and functions as a dominant accent or background, especially in applications prioritizing color consistency and brand alignment.

PMS 519 C displays very low light reflectance, appearing quite dark, especially in matte finishes (LRV 4.75). The color leans cool due to its pronounced purple-violet base. The color exhibits strong saturation, maintaining vividness even at low lightness. PMS 519 C carries subtle blue undertones, which can be more noticeable under cool lighting conditions. The color is sensitive to finish; higher-gloss or satin finishes can increase visual depth, while matte may mute vibrancy.

PMS 519 C is effective in environments requiring dramatic, highly controlled color presence—such as brand walls, trade show components, and high-visibility displays. For consistent results, paint samples should always be reviewed in the intended lighting and finish. Due to its deep tone and saturation, surface preparation is important for uniform coverage; porous or uneven substrates may require additional priming. Compared to other dark purples, PMS 519 C is particularly cool and saturated, which sets it apart from hues that shift toward warmth or softness.

Similar colors:
PMS 2613 C: Slightly lighter and even more chromatic, with a more vivid violet impression.

PMS 268 C: Similar darkness but shifts marginally cooler and less red, reading more toward blue-violet.

PMS 2603 C: Warmer and less blue, resulting in a redder, more muted purple appearance.

Frequently Asked Questions About Pantone™ PMS 519 C

What should I consider when using Pantone PMS 519 C in a pop-up or retail environment?

When using Pantone PMS 519 C in pop-up or retail environments, review the durability needs for your installation. The color's deep, saturated nature means finish selection and substrate prep are critical for even coverage and visual consistency. Always sample PMS 519 C on the actual material and in the installed lighting. Matte and gloss can change the appearance and depth of color, so match the final finish to your brand's expectations. For best results, test coverage, adhesion, and appearance before moving forward with full-scale application.

How should I use samples of PMS 519 C for brand approval workflows?

For brand approval workflows, order a small sample of PMS 519 C in the finish and type planned for your project. Apply it to the intended substrate and evaluate the color in the lighting where it will be displayed. This process helps uncover any color shift due to finish, substrate, or lighting, and is especially important for dark or saturated shades like PMS 519 C. Confirm color acceptance before ordering larger quantities to help ensure brand consistency and reduce the risk of costly resprays or delays.

What durability expectations should I have for spray paint matched to Pantone PMS 519 C?

Durability for spray paint matched to Pantone PMS 519 C depends on surface preparation, paint type, and environmental exposure. Properly primed, smooth substrates will provide the most uniform, long-lasting results. If the installation will face heavy handling or cleaning, consider a harder topcoat. For indoor retail and display uses, most spray paint options will provide suitable performance if applied as directed, but always check that the paint system aligns with your durability needs. Sampling first can help validate both the visual and performance aspects before full rollout.

Can I use the Pantone PMS 519 C for touch up?

Unfortunately, no.

Some manufacturers specify Pantone colors as touch up for their products, but Pantone does not work well as a proxy for a touch-up solution (for a litany of reasons such as it doesn't include sheen and Pantone color tolerances are not tight enough for touch up). When we match Pantone colors we are matching to a swatch in a Pantone book - not to your product.

The only way we can provide a touch-up solution for your product is for you send us a part. We would use the part to create a touch-up grade match. Unfortunately, there isn't an effective way to 'spec' the color well enough to produce a touch up without the part.
