Pantone™ PMS 449 C

PMS 449 C is a Pantone standard and does not have a guaranteed direct equivalent in other paint brands. Each paint brand develops its own unique palette, and cross-references are rarely exact, especially for complex or muted shades like PMS 449 C. If your goal is brand-accurate reproduction, it is always best to specify the Pantone code directly and use paint custom-matched to that standard instead of attempting to substitute from another paint collection.

PMS 449 C is intended as a visual brand standard, not a repair or touch-up formula. If your goal is to achieve touch-up-grade matching to an existing part, it is important to send a physical sample for a custom match. Relying only on the Pantone PMS 449 C code will produce a paint that matches the brand color standard, but there may be visible differences compared to previously coated parts due to finish, fading, or substrate factors. For the closest touch-up results, submit an actual part or panel for analysis.

The appearance of PMS 449 C can change noticeably depending on the surface texture. A rough or matte surface will scatter light and may make the color look slightly lighter and less saturated, emphasizing the earthy brown notes. Smooth or glossy textures increase reflectivity, possibly deepening the olive tone and making the surface appear darker. If brand consistency and visual alignment are critical, always test the chosen finish and texture on your actual substrate under relevant lighting before approving for full production.

The sheen of PMS 449 C strongly influences its perceived color and reflectivity. Higher gloss finishes can intensify the olive undertones and increase brightness, while lower sheens such as matte or eggshell can make the color look more muted and enforce its utilitarian appearance. Decide on sheen with consideration for the substrate, intended viewing distance, and any brand guidance provided. For any brand-critical work, approve a physical sample in both sheen and lighting typical of your environment before full-scale use.

Unfortunately, no.

Some manufacturers specify Pantone colors as touch up for their products, but Pantone does not work well as a proxy for a touch-up solution (for a litany of reasons such as it doesn't include sheen and Pantone color tolerances are not tight enough for touch up). When we match Pantone colors we are matching to a swatch in a Pantone book - not to your product.

The only way we can provide a touch-up solution for your product is for you send us a part. We would use the part to create a touch-up grade match. Unfortunately, there isn't an effective way to 'spec' the color well enough to produce a touch up without the part.

The 11oz spray will cover about 20 square feet per coat. Keep in mind that it is difficult to gauge how much spray you'll need as it is highly dependent on how it is applied. It is better to have too much than run short.

We've found that every paint company offers its own unique selection of colors and rarely does a color have an exact equivalent in another company's color collection, especially for a color collection like Pantone which is designed for bright colors and inks.
