Pantone® PMS 439 C . Paint And Spray Paint. MyPerfectColor is the official licensee of Pantone and authorized to reproduce the Pantone Matching System colors in spray paint and other paints.

PMS 439 C is part of the Pantone PMS collection, a standard for color specification in branding, industrial design, and fabricated displays. This color reads as deep, muted, and grounded with an earthy, professional, and controlled vibe. Its nearly black brown impression provides designers a discreet yet distinct alternative to true black for identity work requiring visual subtlety and durability.

PMS 439 C presents as a very dark brown with minimal light reflectance (LRV 4.1). The color has a neutral to slightly warm tendency, informed by its muted brown base. PMS 439 C is low in chroma, resulting in subdued saturation and an understated appearance. The color contains subtle gray undertones, adding to its muted and neutralized effect. PMS 439 C can show significant shifts in depth and richness depending on finish; glossier sheens can enhance its warmth, while matte finishes appear more neutralized.

PMS 439 C works well when you need controlled contrast in brand palettes or high-end signage without the starkness of pure black. It is effective for creating mood or emphasis without drawing excessive attention. Accurate surface preparation is important, as coverage demands may be higher due to the dark, low-chroma formula. Lighting—especially warm and cool spectrums—can influence whether the brown base or gray undertones are more apparent. When substituting or comparing against other dark neutrals, expect PMS 439 C to offer greater warmth and depth, though it remains softer than highly chromatic browns.

Similar colors:
PMS 476 C — Similar depth but slightly warmer and less muted, providing a richer brown.

PMS 433 C — Cooler and more blue-black, lacking the earthy brown character of 439 C.

PMS 412 C — Comparable darkness but presents a more neutral, charcoal tone rather than brown.

Frequently Asked Questions About Pantone™ PMS 439 C

Do I need to specify the full code for Pantone PMS 439 C when ordering paint?

It is important to confirm the exact Pantone code, including any suffix like 'C' in PMS 439 C, before ordering paint. Pantone codes may have different letters or series such as C (Coated), U (Uncoated), or others, and each can refer to a distinct color standard. Always check your brand guidelines or project documentation to ensure you are referencing the correct Pantone code for your intended use.

How much area can one spray can of Pantone PMS 439 C paint cover?

One spray can of Pantone PMS 439 C paint typically covers approximately 20 to 25 square feet per coat. Actual coverage depends on surface texture, application technique, and the number of coats required. For dark or low-chroma colors like PMS 439 C, multiple coats may be needed for full opacity, especially on light or uneven surfaces. Calculate total coverage by multiplying the number of coats by your project's total square footage and adjust your quantity if high uniformity is required.

How does surface texture affect the look of Pantone PMS 439 C?

The texture of your surface can change how Pantone PMS 439 C appears once painted. A smooth or glossy finish may make the color read slightly deeper and warmer, while a matte or rough texture can soften its appearance and make it look more neutral or subdued. Increased surface texture can also lead to varied reflectivity and subtle shadowing, causing the color to appear lighter or darker depending on light direction and intensity.

What is the best way to apply Pantone PMS 439 C spray paint for a consistent finish?

For a consistent finish with Pantone PMS 439 C spray paint, apply several thin coats rather than trying to achieve full coverage in one pass. Light coats help reduce runs and unevenness, especially for low-chroma, dark colors. Allow each coat to dry until it is no longer tacky before applying the next. This process improves color uniformity and finish quality, which is important for brand-quality results.

How quickly will I receive my paint matched to Pantone PMS 439 C?

Interior and exterior house paints usually ship within 1 to 3 business days, while custom spray paint typically takes 3-5 business days to ship. The transit time depends on your location and the shipping method you choose. If your need is immediate, select Expedited Production during checkout. Can I use the Pantone PMS 439 C for touch up?

Unfortunately, no.

Some manufacturers specify Pantone colors as touch up for their products, but Pantone does not work well as a proxy for a touch-up solution (for a litany of reasons such as it doesn't include sheen and Pantone color tolerances are not tight enough for touch up). When we match Pantone colors we are matching to a swatch in a Pantone book - not to your product.

The only way we can provide a touch-up solution for your product is for you send us a part. We would use the part to create a touch-up grade match. Unfortunately, there isn't an effective way to 'spec' the color well enough to produce a touch up without the part.
