Pantone™ PMS 393 C

A Pantone book is a visual reference that uses specific paper types and finishes as its standard. When you order PMS 393 C paint, the color target is the book, but actual results will vary with paint format, sheen, and substrate. Gloss finishes can make PMS 393 C appear brighter and more vivid than the matte paper swatch, while matte paints can look softer and slightly lighter. Differences are especially apparent on textured or porous surfaces. For brand-sensitive projects, always test PMS 393 C on the real material in your intended finish before full-scale production to ensure the result meets expectations.

The choice of matte or gloss finish for PMS 393 C affects both the look and visibility of the color. Gloss finishes increase saturation and brightness, making PMS 393 C appear punchier but may introduce glare under direct lighting. Matte finishes reduce reflectivity and glare, resulting in a softer, subtler yellow appearance, but may look less intense from a distance. Consider viewing conditions and the lighting for your application, as PMS 393 C is a very light yellow and will be especially sensitive to these factors. Sampling both finishes in your actual environment will give you the best guidance for brand consistency.

PMS 393 C can look different on various substrates due to differences in surface absorption, texture, and reflectivity. Metals may enhance brightness and provide sharp color, plastics may alter undertone depending on base color, and woods can absorb paint or show grain through light colors like PMS 393 C. For the most accurate brand result, test PMS 393 C on each substrate as early as possible and ensure all surfaces are properly primed. This minimizes unexpected shifts in color appearance across components or environments.

A typical spray can of PMS 393 C covers about 20 to 25 square feet per coat on a smooth, primed surface. Because PMS 393 C is a delicate, light yellow, achieving full color opacity may require two or more coats, especially over dark or unprimed surfaces. Surface roughness, the number of coats, and application method all affect total coverage. For accurate estimating, sample first and be sure to order extra for multi-coat applications or surfaces with complex shapes.

Some manufacturers specify Pantone colors as touch up for their products, but Pantone does not work well as a proxy for a touch-up solution (for a litany of reasons such as it doesn't include sheen and Pantone color tolerances are not tight enough for touch up). When we match Pantone colors we are matching to a swatch in a Pantone book - not to your product.

The only way we can provide a touch-up solution for your product is for you send us a part. We would use the part to create a touch-up grade match. Unfortunately, there isn't an effective way to 'spec' the color well enough to produce a touch up without the part.
