PMS 338 C is a Pantone Matching System color from the Pantone PMS collection. The color is typically described as light, clear, fresh, technical, and inviting, with a visual character well-suited for brand-facing display and promotional applications. It balances visual energy with a soft, accessible vibe. Its appearance can read as distinctly modern and approachable, especially in marketing, display fabrication, and retail contexts.

PMS 338 C is a light green, with a moderately high light reflectance value (LRV 53.21). The color has a cool cast, demonstrating more blue than yellow in its hue. It is moderately saturated, presenting clean chroma without heaviness. PMS 338 C shows subtle blue-green undertones, which give it a crisp and refreshing visual. The color’s clarity and brightness can render it sensitive to changes in gloss or lighting, with gloss finishes appearing more vibrant and matte finishes reading softer.

PMS 338 C is often specified for branded displays, point-of-sale materials, and temporary retail or event installations where a light, invigorating green is required. The color is used in brand palettes that prioritize freshness and approachability without the intensity of deeper greens.

PMS 338 C works well in environments that benefit from a clean, light green that manages to be visually present without being overpowering. Designers should evaluate the color under intended lighting, as cooler or low-light conditions may amplify its blue-green cast. Surface preparation and finish choice can influence both the vibrancy and perceived softness of PMS 338 C; matte or eggshell can yield a subtler appearance, while higher sheens will accentuate brightness and clarity. Compared to other light greens, PMS 338 C maintains a cleaner, less yellow character, which can be advantageous when consistent visual impact across diverse substrates is a priority.

Similar colors:

PMS 339 C – Darker and more intense, offering stronger visual weight and depth.

PMS 3242 C – Cooler and a bit more blue, resulting in a crisper, more aquatic appearance.

Frequently Asked Questions About Pantone™ PMS 338 C

What does it mean to order PMS 338 C paint as a Pantone color match?

When you order paint matched to PMS 338 C, you are requesting a color matched to the Pantone PMS 338 C visual target. This code specifies a precise color standard for brand consistency across various materials. It is not a paint formula, finish specification, or guarantee of a single result under all conditions. Differences in substrate, lighting, and finish type can affect how PMS 338 C appears. Always confirm with stakeholders if you are unsure which standard or finish is needed for your application.

How should I prepare the surface before applying PMS 338 C paint?

Proper surface preparation is essential for good results with PMS 338 C paint. Ensure the surface is clean by removing dust, oil, and grease using appropriate cleaners. For best adhesion, lightly scuff glossy or smooth surfaces and wipe away residue. Prior to full application, test a small area with PMS 338 C to confirm both appearance and adhesion match your expectations. Allow the sample to fully dry before evaluating.

What is the best way to compare samples of PMS 338 C paint for approval?

To accurately approve PMS 338 C paint samples, use consistent lighting conditions and review samples on the same substrate type that will be used in production. Make sure all coatings are fully dry or cured before making color judgments. This approach helps account for how PMS 338 C will actually appear in its final environment and minimizes surprises after installation.

What is the recommended application method for spraying PMS 338 C paint?

For PMS 338 C, apply multiple light coats rather than one heavy coat to achieve even color and minimize runs. Allow proper drying time between coats as directed on the product label, especially since lighter and more saturated colors like PMS 338 C may need additional coats for uniform coverage. Avoid rushing, as adequate dry time between coats helps ensure consistent finish and color accuracy.

How quickly will I receive my paint matched to Pantone PMS 338 C?
All paint is custom-made to order. While most orders ship within 48 hours, the lead-time for paint made to match Pantone PMS 338 C depends on the type of paint needed. Interior and exterior house paints usually ship within 1 to 3 business days, while custom spray paint typically takes 3-5 business days to ship. The transit time depends on your location and the shipping method you choose. If your need is immediate, select Expedited Production during checkout. Most expedited production orders ship within 24 hours on business days. Please contact MyPerfectColor if you are concerned about a specific deadline. Can I use the Pantone PMS 338 C for touch up?

Unfortunately, no.

Some manufacturers specify Pantone colors as touch up for their products, but Pantone does not work well as a proxy for a touch-up solution (for a litany of reasons such as it doesn't include sheen and Pantone color tolerances are not tight enough for touch up). When we match Pantone colors we are matching to a swatch in a Pantone book - not to your product.

The only way we can provide a touch-up solution for your product is for you send us a part. We would use the part to create a touch-up grade match. Unfortunately, there isn't an effective way to 'spec' the color well enough to produce a touch up without the part.

How do I convert PMS 338 C to a different color from another paint company?

While MyPerfectColor can provide PMS 338 C in paint, we don't provide any crossover information.
