PMS 3288 C is specified within the Pantone Matching System, widely used for branding, marketing environments, and display fabrication. The color presents a dark, saturated blue-green appearance with a distinctively cool, vivid, and assertive vibe. Frequently described as technical, intense, and visually commanding, PMS 3288 C is chosen for applications where strong, easily recognizable color differentiation is desired.

PMS 3288 C appears notably dark, with a relatively low LRV of 13.84. The color has a pronounced cool tendency and resides in the blue-green family. PMS 3288 C exhibits high saturation, contributing to its vivid, chromatic appearance. The undertone is distinctly blue-leaning, which accentuates its technical and modern aesthetic. The color is sensitive to finish and lighting, with gloss and direct lighting enhancing chromatic intensity, while matte or diffuse lighting can subdue its vibrancy.

PMS 3288 C performs well in environments requiring bold color presence and brand clarity, such as signage, display units, and brand event installations. The color may appear deeper and cooler under certain artificial light sources, so testing under intended conditions is recommended. On textured or matte surfaces, PMS 3288 C may present reduced vibrancy compared to glossier finishes. Due to its strong chroma and relative darkness, adequate surface preparation and potentially multiple coats may be needed to achieve uniform, accurate coverage compared to less saturated colors.

Similar colors:
PMS 3278 C is similar but appears slightly lighter and less deep, with a marginally higher chromatic brightness.

PMS 3298 C shares the blue-green character but is darker and more muted, resulting in an even more subdued visual impact.

PMS 3295 C is cooler, shifting further toward blue and appearing cleaner but with somewhat less visual weight.

Frequently Asked Questions About Pantone™ PMS 3288 C

What safety steps should I follow when using PMS 3288 C paint products?

When using paint products matched to PMS 3288 C, always review the Safety Data Sheet specific to the product you have selected, as safety requirements can differ based on format and chemistry. Use proper ventilation, wear personal protective equipment such as gloves and masks as directed, and follow safe handling, storage, and disposal instructions outlined on the label and SDS. Never assume all PMS 3288 C paint formats have the same handling or VOC requirements.

How should I decide between matte and gloss finishes for PMS 3288 C in a brand application?

The choice between matte and gloss for PMS 3288 C affects how the color appears in your brand display. Gloss finishes increase saturation and chroma, making the dark blue-green look more vivid and eye-catching, but may introduce glare in direct light. Matte finishes reduce reflections and help visibility at a wide range of viewing angles, but can make the color appear slightly less vibrant and reveal surface unevenness. Consider the lighting environment and how viewers will interact with the display to select the finish that supports your intended brand presentation.

How can I use PMS 3288 C to represent my brand color accurately in prototypes or concept models?

PMS 3288 C is often specified for visual alignment in prototypes and concept models. To achieve accurate brand color representation, select a format such as spray paint or paint pens that is suited for your prototype materials and finishing process. Test your selected product on the same substrate and under the actual lighting conditions planned for final display. Since PMS 3288 C is dark and saturated, multiple coats may be needed for full coverage and consistency. Evaluate appearance after drying and, if required, adjust surface prep, number of coats, or finish to meet your visual goals.

What product formats are available for PMS 3288 C and how should I choose the right one?

PMS 3288 C is available in multiple paint formats including custom spray paint, paint pens, brush-in-cap bottles, and other coatings where offered. The best format depends on your application needs. Spray paint is commonly used for even coverage on fabricated parts or displays, while paint pens and brush-in-cap bottles are useful for smaller details or edges in branding prototypes. Consider the scale of your project, the type of substrate, and the desired application method before ordering to ensure correct and consistent results.

Can I use the Pantone PMS 3288 C for touch up?

Unfortunately, no.

Some manufacturers specify Pantone colors as touch up for their products, but Pantone does not work well as a proxy for a touch-up solution (for a litany of reasons such as it doesn't include sheen and Pantone color tolerances are not tight enough for touch up). When we match Pantone colors we are matching to a swatch in a Pantone book - not to your product.

The only way we can provide a touch-up solution for your product is for you send us a part. We would use the part to create a touch-up grade match. Unfortunately, there isn't an effective way to 'spec' the color well enough to produce a touch up without the part.
