PMS 3145 C from the Pantone PMS collection is a dark, saturated blue-green with a cool, refined character. This color is often perceived as bold, corporate, and technical, with a stable and sophisticated vibe. Its depth and vividness pair with a cool undertone, making it practical for environments requiring distinctive but not garish branding.

PMS 3145 C exhibits a low light reflectance value (LRV 13.16), making it distinctly dark in most applications. The color is cool in tone, skewing toward blue-green hues. This color maintains high saturation, resulting in strong chromatic presence and clean color identity. Undertone is predominantly blue with a noticeable teal-green element, contributing to a technical, less organic feel. The color’s visual impact is sensitive to finish; higher sheens can exaggerate its depth and richness, while flat finishes may reduce saturation.

PMS 3145 C is operationally effective when used for brand-focused displays, signage, and fabricated elements intended for environments with sufficient lighting to prevent excessive darkening. When applying this color, it is important to confirm substrate coverage due to its dark, saturated nature, as additional coats may be required for uniform color. Finish selection (e.g., gloss versus matte) can notably influence perceived brightness and saturation, so always preview on the intended substrate. Compared to other blue-greens, PMS 3145 C stands out for its darker value and cooler bias, tending to read more professional and less vibrant than lighter or more cyan options.

Frequently Asked Questions About Pantone™ PMS 3145 C

How does finish or sheen affect the appearance of Pantone PMS 3145 C in branding or display applications?

Finish choice, such as gloss, satin, or matte, can dramatically change how Pantone PMS 3145 C is perceived. Gloss finishes make the color appear deeper and richer by increasing reflected light and saturation. Matte or flat finishes mute brightness and can reduce the perceived saturation, causing PMS 3145 C to look slightly lighter and less intense. Always preview the chosen finish on your actual substrate because finish and ambient lighting together will determine the final visual impact in branded environments.

What is the best way to use samples of PMS 3145 C for brand approval workflows?

For formal brand approval or high-visibility builds using PMS 3145 C, order a sample in the intended format and finish. Evaluate it on the actual substrate and under the lighting conditions it will be installed in. This approach allows you to confirm that PMS 3145 C meets visual expectations and brand standards before moving forward with large orders or fabrication. Sampling helps avoid costly alignment issues and unexpected visual differences at scale.

Does the texture of the surface affect how PMS 3145 C looks?

Yes. The texture of your substrate changes how PMS 3145 C will appear in real projects. Smooth surfaces reflect light evenly, often showing the color closer to its standard target. Highly textured or rough surfaces scatter light and may create shadowing, causing PMS 3145 C to appear darker or less saturated. For branding and display, always check the color on the actual material and texture you plan to use, as texture can alter the intended color impact.

What should I know about coverage and undercoating when using PMS 3145 C for brand displays?

PMS 3145 C is a dark, highly saturated blue-green, which can be challenging to cover evenly, especially over light or contrasting surfaces. You may need multiple coats to achieve uniform coverage. Using a compatible dark or tinted undercoat can reduce the number of finishing coats needed and help achieve a more consistent brand color result. Planning for this at the start supports a more accurate and efficient build for branding applications.

Can I use the Pantone PMS 3145 C for touch up?

Unfortunately, no.

Some manufacturers specify Pantone colors as touch up for their products, but Pantone does not work well as a proxy for a touch-up solution (for a litany of reasons such as it doesn't include sheen and Pantone color tolerances are not tight enough for touch up). When we match Pantone colors we are matching to a swatch in a Pantone book - not to your product.

The only way we can provide a touch-up solution for your product is for you send us a part. We would use the part to create a touch-up grade match. Unfortunately, there isn't an effective way to 'spec' the color well enough to produce a touch up without the part.
