PMS 2748 C is a Pantone Matching System (PMS) color, widely known for its use in standardized brand and display applications. This color presents as a rich, dark blue-violet and is associated with a strong, technical, corporate, and contemporary vibe. It conveys a sense of authority without warmth, offering a professional tone suitable for both digital and physical implementations.

PMS 2748 C appears very dark, with notably low light reflectance (LRV: 1.91). The color is cool-toned, leaning more toward blue than purple, with a slightly violet inclination. PMS 2748 C displays high chroma and strong color saturation, making it visually assertive. The undertone is distinctly blue-violet, showing minimal warmth under most lighting conditions. This color is sensitive to finish; higher-gloss sheens will intensify its saturation and depth, while matte finishes may subdue its vividness.

PMS 2748 C works well in applications demanding depth and visual weight, such as signage, displays, and branded environments. Due to its high saturation and low light reflectance, be aware that it can appear almost black under typical interior lighting or in shaded areas. Gloss level will significantly impact perceived color strength and uniformity—sampling on the final substrate and finish is strongly recommended. Compared to similar colors, PMS 2748 C is less prone to appearing purple or muted and retains a deep blue impression even under cooler or mixed lighting.

Similar colors:
PMS 2747 C — Similar in hue but slightly lighter and less dramatically saturated.

PMS 2756 C — Shares a dark blue-violet appearance but introduces a more pronounced purple note and marginally less visual depth.

PMS 2728 C — Lighter and notably more vibrant, lacking the shadowed depth of PMS 2748 C.

Frequently Asked Questions About Pantone™ PMS 2748 C

Will PMS 2748 C paint look exactly like the Pantone book chip?

A Pantone book shows PMS 2748 C on a standardized paper with a specific finish. When you order paint matched to PMS 2748 C, the appearance can vary based on sheen (gloss, satin, matte), substrate, and lighting. Paint on metal, plastic, wood, or drywall may reflect light differently and look more or less vivid or dark than the swatch in the Pantone book. For best results, test PMS 2748 C paint on your actual material in the intended finish and environment before full-scale use. This ensures your result meets your brand and display goals.

How can I get help choosing the right paint type for PMS 2748 C?

If you are unsure which paint type is best for matching PMS 2748 C to your substrate or project needs, contact MyPerfectColor with details about your material, indoor or outdoor exposure, and preferred finish. The team can recommend the most suitable format, such as spray paint, epoxy, or house paint, for achieving a visually consistent result that supports your brand or display requirements.

How does PMS 2748 C help ensure brand experience consistency?

PMS 2748 C is a standardized color used in the Pantone Matching System to support consistent brand experiences across displays, signage, and branded environments. By specifying PMS 2748 C, brands can communicate an exact visual target, allowing reproduction on different materials and in multiple locations while maintaining consistent visual identity. Paint matched to PMS 2748 C helps bring this brand experience to physical components, provided the color is sampled and accepted on the final substrate and finish.

When is a primer needed before applying PMS 2748 C paint?

Primer requirements for PMS 2748 C depend on your substrate, the exposure environment, and the chosen paint type. Porous or raw surfaces like wood, drywall, or metal usually need priming for adhesion and uniform color appearance. Highly saturated colors such as PMS 2748 C may also require a primer for better coverage and color strength. For specific guidance, review substrate and product recommendations or consult MyPerfectColor for primer selection support.

Can I use the Pantone PMS 2748 C for touch up?

Unfortunately, no.

Some manufacturers specify Pantone colors as touch up for their products, but Pantone does not work well as a proxy for a touch-up solution (for a litany of reasons such as it doesn't include sheen and Pantone color tolerances are not tight enough for touch up). When we match Pantone colors we are matching to a swatch in a Pantone book - not to your product.

The only way we can provide a touch-up solution for your product is for you send us a part. We would use the part to create a touch-up grade match. Unfortunately, there isn't an effective way to 'spec' the color well enough to produce a touch up without the part.
