PMS 2728 C from the Pantone PMS collection is a bold, technical, and attention-getting blue, recognized for its saturated appearance and strong visual presence. The color is frequently described as vivid, clean, and impactful. It exhibits a cool blue dominance and is engineered for use where color consistency and brand recognition are operationally critical.
PMS 2728 C has a deep, noticeably dark visual impression (LRV 7.54). The color exhibits a distinctly cool undertone, with strong blue chromaticity. PMS 2728 C has very high saturation, resulting in a strong and pure blue appearance. There are no significant secondary undertones; the blue is straightforward and clean. This color is sensitive to finish: gloss level and surface preparation can markedly affect perceived depth and brightness. The color’s intensity and depth can visually shift depending on lighting conditions.
PMS 2728 C is frequently used in feature elements of brand signage and display exhibits where strong color visibility is required. The color is often specified for painted retail display components and marketing installations needing accurate and vivid blue representation. Concept or prototype objects for corporate or institutional identity frequently use this color for visual reference. PMS 2728 C is applied as a decorative accent in commercial and educational settings to convey a distinct, branded appearance.
PMS 2728 C is operationally effective when a bold and saturated blue is essential for maximum impact, such as brand-focused environments, signage, or marketing installations. Given its strong chromatic intensity and low LRV, it may require careful attention to surface preparation and potentially multiple paint coats for uniform coverage—particularly over contrasting base colors. Lighting and gloss level will significantly influence the observed color, making it important to evaluate both paint and Pantone reference swatches under actual, intended conditions. PMS 2728 C can be less forgiving of application inconsistency compared to less saturated blues.
This Pantone PMS color is defined by the Pantone Matching System standard. Evaluate the color using a physical Pantone reference and a real paint sample in the intended lighting and finish. Paint appearance varies by finish and lighting.

Pantone PMS 2728 C is a deep, highly saturated blue that can be challenging to match precisely across paint and other materials. The intensity and chroma that make PMS 2728 C visually striking also increase the potential for perceptible differences between samples, especially when paint is applied to different surfaces or finished in different sheens. MyPerfectColor specializes in matching vivid Pantone shades like PMS 2728 C as closely as possible in a variety of paint formats. However, minor differences in appearance can occur due to substrate, finish, and lighting. It is always best to review a sample under the actual project conditions if color alignment is mission-critical.
PMS 2728 C is defined by the Pantone Matching System and is specifically formulated for consistent visual appearance across various branded materials. Most paint brands use their own unique color palettes, and vivid Pantone hues like PMS 2728 C often cannot be matched exactly using standard paint brand colors. Attempting to cross-reference may result in significant visual differences, especially in saturated and technical blues. For brand accuracy, specify PMS 2728 C directly and request it by Pantone code rather than substituting with a similar standard paint brand color.
Ordering a standard Pantone PMS 2728 C match is appropriate for brand-facing displays, signage, exhibit components, prototypes, and marketing installations where the Pantone reference is the required color standard. If your project must visually match branding guidelines and does not involve critical touch-up or repair work, a standard PMS 2728 C match is generally the correct approach. This ensures color consistency and meets typical requirements for marketing and brand environments.
Before proceeding with a full production run of PMS 2728 C, it is best practice to order a small sample in the exact finish and format you intend to use. Evaluate this sample under actual project lighting and on the intended material or substrate. This allows your brand and project stakeholders to confirm that the painted result meets visual and color expectations. Once approved, use this signed-off sample as the benchmark for all future production batches and any quality control checks throughout your project.
Yes, PMS 2728 C is a deep, highly saturated blue with a low light reflectance value. Paints formulated to match this color may require additional coats to achieve uniform coverage and full opacity, especially over contrasting or light substrates. Plan for the possibility of multiple coats, and be aware that finish choice also affects depth and vibrancy. Testing coverage on your actual substrate helps ensure brand consistency and correct appearance.
For the most consistent results with PMS 2728 C on repeat orders, always order the same paint type, sheen, and substrate preparation as previously approved. Significant changes in product, finish, or substrate can lead to visible differences, especially for deeply saturated blues like this. Keep a retained sample from your approved batch to use as a visual reference for future orders, and request that all reorders are checked against this benchmark for color acceptance and consistency.
Sampling PMS 2728 C is strongly recommended for large, brand-critical, or high-visibility installations. Because substrate type, finish, and lighting can all affect the perceived color, reviewing a sample on the actual material and under project conditions is the best way to ensure acceptance. This is especially important when final approval processes or multi-vendor coordination are involved, or when applying highly saturated colors like PMS 2728 C to non-standard surfaces.
When planning a project with PMS 2728 C, select an interior paint if your application will remain indoors and is not exposed to weather or UV light. For outdoor signage, displays, or installations, choose a paint rated for exterior use for better durability. If appearance in high-visibility brand settings is critical, confirm the final color by sampling both the finish and substrate under project lighting before full application, as gloss and exposure can affect the look of this saturated blue.
Unfortunately, no.
Some manufacturers specify Pantone colors as touch up for their products, but Pantone does not work well as a proxy for a touch-up solution (for a litany of reasons such as it doesn't include sheen and Pantone color tolerances are not tight enough for touch up). When we match Pantone colors we are matching to a swatch in a Pantone book - not to your product.
The only way we can provide a touch-up solution for your product is for you send us a part. We would use the part to create a touch-up grade match. Unfortunately, there isn't an effective way to 'spec' the color well enough to produce a touch up without the part.
