PMS 265 C is a standardized color from the Pantone Matching System collection, widely used for ensuring brand consistency in marketing, display, and industrial design contexts. The color presents as clear, lively, and visually assertive, falling within the purple family with moderate saturation and a noticeable cool undertone.

PMS 265 C appears as a medium-dark purple, with moderate light reflectance (LRV: 19.27). The color has a cool tendency, subtly leaning toward the blue side of purple. It is moderately saturated, delivering a strong, recognizable presence without approaching neon intensity. There is a slight blue undertone, evident in most viewing conditions. PMS 265 C is moderately sensitive to finish; gloss finishes will enhance vibrancy while matte finishes may mute its chroma and depth.

PMS 265 C is frequently associated with brand identity elements where a clear, recognizable purple is specified. The color is often referenced for event graphics, retail displays, and promotional signage requiring precise color communication.

PMS 265 C works well when a distinct, unmistakable purple is necessary for brand alignment or visual impact. When planning application, ensure that sample approval is conducted under intended lighting and finish, as both can impact perceived color temperature and vividness. Surface preparation should be thorough to minimize variations, as saturated purples may require multiple coats for opacity, especially over lighter or uneven substrates. Compared to similar purples, PMS 265 C will read as a balanced, clear cool purple—neither as dark as some violets nor as pastel as lighter lavenders.

This Pantone PMS color is defined by the Pantone Matching System standard. Evaluate the color using a physical Pantone reference and a real paint sample in the intended lighting and finish. Paint appearance varies by finish and lighting.

The following examples reflect commonly cited branding associations and are based on publicly referenced design usage; they are illustrative, not exhaustive or exclusive. PMS 265 C is widely cited as a corporate identity color used in the branding palette of FedEx for the “Ex” portion of the FedEx Express logo. The color is often referenced in design specifications for collegiate and event signage where standardized purples are required for consistent visual communication.

Frequently Asked Questions About Pantone™ PMS 265 C

How does the finish or sheen affect the appearance of Pantone PMS 265 C in branding and display applications?

The finish you select for Pantone PMS 265 C can significantly alter how the color is perceived in real-world conditions. A gloss finish will make PMS 265 C appear more vibrant and saturated, which can increase its visual impact for signage or display. In contrast, a matte finish will mute the chroma, making the purple appear less intense and slightly lighter. Satin finishes provide an intermediate effect. Always evaluate PMS 265 C samples under your actual lighting and substrate before final approval to ensure the finish matches your brand expectations, as finishes can shift perceived color temperature and depth.

Where can I find the Safety Data Sheet (SDS) for paints made in Pantone PMS 265 C?

The Safety Data Sheet (SDS) for PMS 265 C paint is determined by the specific paint product or type you select, not the color code itself. To obtain the SDS, select the product format for your project, such as spray paint, paint pen, or other available options. You will find the SDS for that product either on the product detail page or within the site's SDS library. The SDS will outline any safety or compliance considerations for the chosen formulation of PMS 265 C.

What is the difference between the Pantone PMS 265 C name and code, and how should I specify the color when ordering?

Pantone PMS 265 C is identified by its unique code, where 'PMS' and the number ensure precise color targeting. The 'C' suffix designates the coated reference. When ordering, always specify the full Pantone code, including any suffix (e.g., PMS 265 C), rather than just a color name or general description. This avoids any ambiguity and ensures you receive a color match referencing the correct Pantone standard. Relying only on color names can lead to incorrect selections due to naming similarities across different Pantone codes.

When is it appropriate to order a standard Pantone PMS 265 C match for my project?

A standard Pantone PMS 265 C match is typically suitable for branding, marketing displays, signage, exhibits, and concept models where visual brand accuracy is the primary goal. This approach uses the Pantone reference as the intended finish and color target for brand-facing applications, temporary installations, or prototype samples. For high-profile permanent installations or complex substrates, a sample approval or OEM match may be more appropriate, but for most marketing-focused projects, selecting the standard PMS 265 C ensures rapid and consistent color alignment.

How quickly will I receive my paint matched to Pantone PMS 265 C?
All paint is custom-made to order. While most orders ship within 48 hours, the lead-time for paint made to match Pantone PMS 265 C depends on the type of paint needed. Interior and exterior house paints usually ship within 1 to 3 business days, while custom spray paint typically takes 3-5 business days to ship. The transit time depends on your location and the shipping method you choose. If your need is immediate, select Expedited Production during checkout. Most expedited production orders ship within 24 hours on business days. Please contact MyPerfectColor if you are concerned about a specific deadline. Can I use the Pantone PMS 265 C for touch up?

Unfortunately, no.

Some manufacturers specify Pantone colors as touch up for their products, but Pantone does not work well as a proxy for a touch-up solution (for a litany of reasons such as it doesn't include sheen and Pantone color tolerances are not tight enough for touch up). When we match Pantone colors we are matching to a swatch in a Pantone book - not to your product.

The only way we can provide a touch-up solution for your product is for you send us a part. We would use the part to create a touch-up grade match. Unfortunately, there isn't an effective way to 'spec' the color well enough to produce a touch up without the part.

While MyPerfectColor can provide PMS 265 C in paint, we don't provide any crossover information.
