PMS 2602 C from the Pantone PMS collection is a strong, dark purple with a notable level of chroma. Its overall vibe is bold, impactful, modern, technical, and assertive. This color is typically chosen for branding scenarios where visibility and distinctiveness are vital and often serves as a key component in identity systems requiring precise, repeatable color matching across materials.

PMS 2602 C appears distinctly dark, with low reflectance (LRV 6.65). The color reads cool due to its purple base and slight blue undertone. The saturation of PMS 2602 C is pronounced, producing a visually rich and intense appearance. This color tends to show pronounced undertones of blue, especially under cool lighting. PMS 2602 C can display shifts in perceived depth and intensity depending on finish choice. Matte can mute depth, while gloss can enhance vibrancy.

PMS 2602 C is operationally suited to environments demanding brand consistency and strong visual presence, such as retail displays, trade show environments, and branded fixtures. For best results, assess PMS 2602 C under intended lighting conditions, as both finish and lighting will significantly influence its hue and perceived depth. Compared with other purples in the PMS range, PMS 2602 C offers greater depth and lower reflectance, which makes it appear richer and more formal; however, its intensity can exaggerate minor inconsistencies in paint application, so surface preparation and even coverage are critical.

Similar colors:
PMS 2603 C – Slightly lighter and more vivid; appears more vibrant under direct lighting.

PMS 2612 C – Deeper and slightly more muted, with less chromatic intensity.

PMS 268 C – Cooler and more neutral, lacking the overt richness of PMS 2602 C.

Frequently Asked Questions About Pantone™ PMS 2602 C

How should I approach using PMS 2602 C in a retail or pop-up environment to ensure visual consistency?

PMS 2602 C is a saturated, dark purple that can appear different depending on lighting, substrate, and finish. For installations like retail displays or pop-ups, evaluate the color under the actual lighting conditions before committing to a large order. Since strong, saturated colors such as PMS 2602 C may require additional coats for full coverage, plan for proper surface preparation and even application. When possible, sample the paint on your intended surface first to check for desired visual impact and to confirm sheen selection, as matte and gloss finishes can shift the perceived depth and vibrancy of this color. This approach reduces the risk of costly misalignment with brand standards.

What does it mean to order paint matched to Pantone PMS 2602 C?

Ordering paint matched to Pantone PMS 2602 C means you are requesting a custom color match to the standardized PMS 2602 C color target. Pantone PMS codes define visual reference colors, not specific paint formulas or finishes. The paint you receive will be formulated to visually align with the PMS 2602 C reference when applied, but factors like substrate, sheen, and lighting may influence the final appearance. Always align expectations around visible color, not proprietary coating formulas or manufacturing processes.

What are the steps to order paint matched to PMS 2602 C on MyPerfectColor?

To order paint matched to PMS 2602 C, first confirm that the displayed color and reference code match your needs. Next, select the appropriate paint type and format offered for your application, such as spray paint or brush-in-cap bottle. Choose the desired sheen or finish and enter the required quantity. Review your selections for accuracy before placing your order. If your project is large or has strict approval requirements, consider starting with a sample to confirm acceptance before full production.

When should I order a sample of PMS 2602 C before committing to a full project?

Sampling is recommended for PMS 2602 C when your project is brand-sensitive, large-scale, or will be installed under specific lighting. The deep, saturated nature of this color means its appearance can change based on substrate and lighting conditions, and coverage may vary. Sampling is especially valuable for formal brand approvals, permanent environments, or when multiple materials are involved. Testing a sample first can help ensure the final result aligns with brand requirements and avoids costly errors.

Can I use the Pantone PMS 2602 C for touch up?

Unfortunately, no.

Some manufacturers specify Pantone colors as touch up for their products, but Pantone does not work well as a proxy for a touch-up solution (for a litany of reasons such as it doesn't include sheen and Pantone color tolerances are not tight enough for touch up). When we match Pantone colors we are matching to a swatch in a Pantone book - not to your product.

The only way we can provide a touch-up solution for your product is for you send us a part. We would use the part to create a touch-up grade match. Unfortunately, there isn't an effective way to 'spec' the color well enough to produce a touch up without the part.
