PMS 257 C is part of the Pantone PMS collection, a color-matching system broadly used in brand standards and marketing applications to ensure consistent color reproduction. This shade presents a muted, cool, and understated vibe with a moderate value that balances approachability with noticeable color presence. The color’s LRV of 43.66 places it in the mid-range for reflectance, supporting moderate visibility without overpowering its surroundings.

PMS 257 C appears as a medium-light lavender with a subdued and cool visual impression. The color has moderate lightness (LRV 43.66), making it visually present without dominating. PMS 257 C shows a cool tendency, attributable to its strong blue-violet hue. The saturation is moderate, resulting in a soft, muted purple rather than a vivid or chromatic one. The undertone is blue-violet, which delivers a contemporary and subtle feel. PMS 257 C’s appearance can shift noticeably depending on lighting conditions and varies with different finishes, highlighting its sensitivity to application environment.

PMS 257 C is well-suited to branded environments, displays, and prototypes where a muted lavender supports contemporary or approachable themes. It is best evaluated under the intended lighting and finish to assess undertone stability, as its blue-violet base can shift with ambient factors. Compared to other purples, PMS 257 C is less chromatic and more muted, which can help avoid visual fatigue in larger applications while still achieving brand distinctiveness.

Similar colors:
PMS 256 C – Lighter and slightly cooler; displays more pastel quality and less visual weight.

PMS 258 C – Darker and richer; offers greater chromatic intensity and a deeper presence.

PMS 7445 C – Slightly more neutral with a grayer undertone; less overtly lavender in effect.

Frequently Asked Questions About Pantone™ PMS 257 C

How can I ensure I am ordering the correct version of Pantone PMS 257 C for my project?

When specifying Pantone PMS 257 C, always confirm the full code including the suffix, such as the letter C, U, or M. These suffixes indicate the series or intended substrate (for example, Coated or Uncoated) and may affect appearance and approval in brand standards. Check your project documentation or brand guidelines to make sure you are referencing Pantone PMS 257 C as required for your intended use.

What type of paint should I select for Pantone PMS 257 C if my application is outdoors?

For outdoor use, choose a paint formulated for exterior performance when ordering Pantone PMS 257 C. Exterior paints are made to withstand weather and UV exposure and will provide longer-lasting color accuracy in outdoor environments. For interior projects, standard interior paints are appropriate. Always match the paint type to your application setting to help ensure the intended finish and durability.

Why might Pantone PMS 257 C look different on various materials or surfaces?

The appearance of Pantone PMS 257 C can vary depending on the substrate due to differences in absorption, texture, and reflectivity. Materials like metal, plastic, or paper can affect how the color is perceived. For best brand consistency, evaluate a sample of PMS 257 C on each material to be used in your final installation.

Can I return Pantone PMS 257 C paint if it is not what I expected?

Pantone PMS 257 C paint is custom mixed to order, so returns are not generally accepted. Be certain about the product type, sheen, and format before ordering. If you are unsure, ordering a sample in your selected finish and material can help ensure the result aligns with your expectations before committing to a larger order.

How quickly will I receive my paint matched to Pantone PMS 257 C?
All paint is custom-made to order. While most orders ship within 48 hours, the lead-time for paint made to match Pantone PMS 257 C depends on the type of paint needed. Interior and exterior house paints usually ship within 1 to 3 business days, while custom spray paint typically takes 3-5 business days to ship. The transit time depends on your location and the shipping method you choose. If your need is immediate, select Expedited Production during checkout. Most expedited production orders ship within 24 hours on business days. Please contact MyPerfectColor if you are concerned about a specific deadline. We do our best to make sure you get your paint on time. Learn more about paint lead times at MyPerfectColor.
Can I use the Pantone PMS 257 C for touch up?

Unfortunately, no.

Some manufacturers specify Pantone colors as touch up for their products, but Pantone does not work well as a proxy for a touch-up solution (for a litany of reasons such as it doesn't include sheen and Pantone color tolerances are not tight enough for touch up). When we match Pantone colors we are matching to a swatch in a Pantone book - not to your product.

The only way we can provide a touch-up solution for your product is for you send us a part. We would use the part to create a touch-up grade match. Unfortunately, there isn't an effective way to 'spec' the color well enough to produce a touch up without the part.

While MyPerfectColor can provide PMS 257 C in paint, we don't provide any crossover information.
