PMS 243 C is part of the Pantone Matching System (PMS) collection, a widely used color specification system in branding, display, and industrial design environments. Visually, this color presents as clean, gentle, understated, and cool-toned, with a slightly technical and contemporary vibe. The pastel appearance supports readability and approachability in branded applications.

PMS 243 C appears light in value, with a moderately high LRV (56.68).

The color reads distinctly cool for a pink, with a subtle blue-lavender undertone.

PMS 243 C exhibits moderate chroma, resulting in a noticeably saturated but not vivid look.

Undertones in this color tend to reveal more blue or lavender under daylight or cooler artificial lighting.

The color’s perceived lightness and saturation can be impacted by surface gloss and lighting conditions; high-gloss finishes may increase vibrancy, while matte surfaces can mute the color’s effect.

PMS 243 C works well in applications requiring a gentle and contemporary pastel, such as in point-of-sale graphics, event fixtures, and retail brand environments. When specifying this color, confirm viewing conditions as lighting and material finish can cause the color to shift toward dusty lavender or cooler pink. Compared to other light pinks, PMS 243 C maintains a subtle blue undertone that keeps it from becoming overly warm; it can appear crisper and less “peachy” than similar but warmer tones.

Similar colors:

  • PMS 244 C: Slightly lighter and more lavender, resulting in a cooler, softer appearance.
  • PMS 245 C: Slightly darker and more saturated, giving a deeper, more pronounced pink effect.
  • PMS 251 C: Noticeably more chromatic and deeper, shifting towards a vibrant purple-pink while remaining cooler in temperature.

Frequently Asked Questions About Pantone™ PMS 243 C

What should I know about VOCs and safe handling when using paint matched to Pantone PMS 243 C?

The safety and VOC profile for paints matched to PMS 243 C depends on the specific product type and formulation you order. Always review the Safety Data Sheet (SDS) provided with your PMS 243 C paint and follow all recommended handling, ventilation, and personal protective equipment instructions. Use good ventilation and proper safety gear, especially when spraying or applying in enclosed spaces.

How should I apply spray paint matched to Pantone PMS 243 C for the best finish?

For PMS 243 C spray paint, apply several light coats instead of one heavy coat. Allow proper drying or flash time between coats to achieve an even, accurate color and reduce the risk of runs. This approach helps ensure better coverage and appearance, especially with lighter or pastel Pantone colors like PMS 243 C.

Why do sign and display projects often specify Pantone PMS 243 C for fabrication?

PMS 243 C is specified in sign, display, and exhibit fabrication to maintain brand consistency and meet visual identity standards. Designers and brands use Pantone codes like PMS 243 C for a precise color target across vendors and materials. For critical applications, it is recommended to sample PMS 243 C paint on the actual substrate so the finished color can be evaluated under real lighting and finish conditions.

What paint and coating formats are available for Pantone PMS 243 C, and how do I choose?

PMS 243 C is available as custom spray paint, paint pens, brush-in-cap bottles, and in other options depending on your application needs. Choose spray paint for larger displays or even coverage on dimensional elements. Paint pens and brush-in-cap bottles are useful for small graphics, detail work, or prototyping. Confirm your substrate and project scale before selecting a format to achieve the best visual match for PMS 243 C.

How quickly will I receive my paint matched to Pantone PMS 243 C?

Can I use the Pantone PMS 243 C for touch up?

Unfortunately, no.

Some manufacturers specify Pantone colors as touch up for their products, but Pantone does not work well as a proxy for a touch-up solution (for a litany of reasons such as it doesn't include sheen and Pantone color tolerances are not tight enough for touch up). When we match Pantone colors we are matching to a swatch in a Pantone book - not to your product.

The only way we can provide a touch-up solution for your product is for you send us a part. We would use the part to create a touch-up grade match. Unfortunately, there isn't an effective way to 'spec' the color well enough to produce a touch up without the part.

Most people don't use a primer for a touch up paint application, but a primer may improve adhesion and is typically recommended for exterior applications.
How do I convert PMS 243 C to a different color from another paint company?

While MyPerfectColor can provide PMS 243 C in paint, we don't provide any crossover information. We've found that every paint company offers its own unique selection of colors and rarely does a color have an exact equivalent in another company's color collection, especially for a color collection like Pantone which is designed for bright colors and inks.
