PMS 225 C, from the Pantone PMS System / collection, is a vibrant, highly saturated magenta noted for its strong visual presence. The color is energetic, confident, modern, and attention-grabbing, with an assertive vibe suited to applications requiring high impact and visibility.

PMS 225 C appears distinctly dark for a magenta, with a qualitative lightness level that reads bold and rich (LRV: 21.05). The color exhibits a cool tendency, owing to its magenta base with blue-leaning undertones. PMS 225 C shows high saturation, contributing to its vivid and memorable appearance. The undertone is primarily blue, helping the color maintain its coolness and intensity under most lighting conditions. This color is notably finish-sensitive; it may appear deeper and more saturated in high gloss, and slightly muted in matte or flat finishes.

PMS 225 C is most effective when a bold, unmistakable magenta is needed for brand identity, short-term marketing installations, or prototype elements requiring immediate visual impact. Because of its high saturation and lower light reflectance value, coverage may require multiple coats, and the color's perceived hue can shift depending on lighting and finish. Evaluate the color on the intended substrate and in planned lighting to confirm color accuracy, especially when precise brand standards are involved. Compared to other magentas, PMS 225 C is cooler and more assertive, without veering into red or violet territory.

Similar colors:
PMS 219 C: Lighter and slightly warmer; less blue, reads as a softer magenta.

PMS 227 C: Darker and deeper, with a stronger blue undertone for a more muted effect.

PMS 2415 C: Slightly brighter and more chromatic, with a punchier, more neon effect.

Frequently Asked Questions About Pantone™ PMS 225 C

Can I substitute Pantone PMS 225 C with an equivalent color from another paint brand?

Pantone PMS 225 C does not have a reliable equivalent in other paint company collections. Each paint brand creates its own unique palette, and vivid, saturated colors like PMS 225 C are usually not found in standard fan decks. Cross-referencing Pantone shades to other brands is rarely exact and may result in significant visual differences. For brand consistency and accurate visual impact, always specify the exact Pantone code when ordering.

Do I need a primer under PMS 225 C paint for my project?

Primer may be required before applying PMS 225 C paint depending on your project type, substrate, and the paint format selected. For highly saturated colors like PMS 225 C, primer helps achieve even coverage and accurate color, especially over porous or dark surfaces. You will also need primer if painting bare metal, raw wood, plastics, or surfaces with adhesion concerns. Check the product instructions and consider a white or tinted primer for the best results with bold magentas.

How do I make sure I order the correct Pantone color for PMS 225 C?

Always specify both the Pantone code and suffix when ordering, such as 'PMS 225 C'. The code defines the precise color target within the Pantone Matching System. Suffixes like 'C' (for coated) are important, as they reference different standards. Do not rely on a color name or visual approximation alone. Double-check all order details to ensure the correct version of PMS 225 C is selected for your brand requirements.

How does sheen affect the appearance of Pantone PMS 225 C paint?

The sheen you choose for PMS 225 C can change how the color looks in your finished application. Higher gloss finishes tend to deepen saturation and make magentas appear more vivid, while matte finishes can mute the vibrancy and make the color read slightly lighter. When selecting sheen, consider the viewing distance, type of substrate, and your intended visual impact. Always evaluate PMS 225 C samples in your application context to confirm the effect before proceeding.

How quickly will I receive my paint matched to Pantone PMS 225 C?
All paint is custom-made to order. While most orders ship within 48 hours, the lead-time for paint made to match Pantone PMS 225 C depends on the type of paint needed. Interior and exterior house paints usually ship within 1 to 3 business days, while custom spray paint typically takes 3-5 business days to ship. The transit time depends on your location and the shipping method you choose. If your need is immediate, select Expedited Production during checkout. Most expedited production orders ship within 24 hours on business days. Please contact MyPerfectColor if you are concerned about a specific deadline. We do our best to make sure you get your paint on time. Learn more about paint lead times at MyPerfectColor.
Can I use the Pantone PMS 225 C for touch up?

Unfortunately, no.

Some manufacturers specify Pantone colors as touch up for their products, but Pantone does not work well as a proxy for a touch-up solution (for a litany of reasons such as it doesn't include sheen and Pantone color tolerances are not tight enough for touch up). When we match Pantone colors we are matching to a swatch in a Pantone book - not to your product.

The only way we can provide a touch-up solution for your product is for you send us a part. We would use the part to create a touch-up grade match. Unfortunately, there isn't an effective way to 'spec' the color well enough to produce a touch up without the part.

To make spray paint matched to Pantone PMS 225 C. MyPerfectColor uses an acrylic enamel which is a fast-drying durable coating suitable for interior or exterior use. MyPerfectColor custom spray paint enables you to conveniently achieve a professional spray-smooth finish in any color in any sheen. Do I need a primer for Pantone PMS 225 C?
The need for primer for Pantone PMS 225 C depends on the type of paint, the substrate being painted and where it will be located. See our Primer Selection Table to see what primer you might need and learn more about when you might need a primer. Most people don't use a primer for a touch up paint application, but a primer may improve adhesion and is typically recommended for exterior applications.
How do I convert PMS 225 C to a different color from another paint company?

While MyPerfectColor can provide PMS 225 C in paint, we don't provide any crossover information. We've found that every paint company offers its own unique selection of colors and rarely does a color have an exact equivalent in another company's color collection, especially for a color collection like Pantone which is designed for bright colors and inks.
