PMS 218 C is a branded color from the Pantone PMS collection, commonly used in marketing, display, and industrial design contexts. This color offers a saturated, eye-catching magenta tone with a modern, energetic, and assertive vibe. The color is functional and striking, supporting brand consistency where bold visual differentiation is needed.

PMS 218 C is moderately dark, as indicated by an LRV of 32.8. The color presents as cool-toned, with a strong magenta identity. PMS 218 C exhibits high saturation and vividness in appearance. This color has a blue undertone, which enhances its vibrancy and depth. The color is sensitive to changes in finish and lighting, and may shift in perceived intensity.

PMS 218 C is frequently specified in retail branding as a distinctive accent for logos, signage, and marketing collateral. The color is often used for trade show displays and pop-up brand activations that require a saturated, memorable color statement.

PMS 218 C works well where a powerful brand presence or energetic visual impression is desired. It is important to evaluate this color in actual lighting conditions and on intended surfaces, as finish and gloss can amplify or mute its appearance. Compared to similar magentas, this color will generally appear cooler and slightly deeper, which can affect perceived vibrancy on large-scale applications.

This Pantone PMS color is defined by the Pantone Matching System standard. Evaluate the color using a physical Pantone reference and a real paint sample in the intended lighting and finish. Paint appearance varies by finish and lighting.

Frequently Asked Questions About Pantone™ PMS 218 C

Does PMS 218 C require more coats for full coverage compared to less saturated Pantone colors?

PMS 218 C is a highly saturated magenta, which means it may require additional coats to achieve full, uniform coverage, especially over contrasting or uneven surfaces. For best visual consistency with PMS 218 C, plan to apply extra coats and consider starting with a white or color-appropriate primer to improve hide.

How do I choose the right type of paint for PMS 218 C if my project is interior versus exterior?

When specifying PMS 218 C for a project, select an interior paint for brand displays, signage, or marketing elements used indoors, and choose an exterior-rated paint when the finished piece will be exposed to sunlight, weather, or fluctuating temperatures. Confirm the intended use and select the paint type designed for that environment to ensure color durability and performance.

What should I know about matching PMS 218 C accurately across different materials?

PMS 218 C is defined by the Pantone Matching System, but its appearance can vary depending on the material, finish, and lighting. Bright colors like PMS 218 C are more challenging to match consistently across substrates, so it is important to evaluate a real sample in your intended conditions. MyPerfectColor specializes in matching vivid Pantone colors in paint but expect small differences from digital or paper references, especially on non-standard surfaces.

Are there special steps when applying PMS 218 C paint to plastics or low energy surfaces?

Painting plastics or low energy surfaces with PMS 218 C matched paint often requires a specialty primer to achieve good adhesion. Because plastics vary widely, always test the paint and primer combination on your actual substrate before full production. This helps ensure the desired color appearance and durability for your branded application.

How quickly will I receive my paint matched to Pantone PMS 218 C?
All paint is custom-made to order. While most orders ship within 48 hours, the lead-time for paint made to match Pantone PMS 218 C depends on the type of paint needed. Interior and exterior house paints usually ship within 1 to 3 business days, while custom spray paint typically takes 3-5 business days to ship. The transit time depends on your location and the shipping method you choose. If your need is immediate, select Expedited Production during checkout. Most expedited production orders ship within 24 hours on business days. Please contact MyPerfectColor if you are concerned about a specific deadline. We do our best to make sure you get your paint on time. Learn more about paint lead times at MyPerfectColor.
Can I use the Pantone PMS 218 C for touch up?

Unfortunately, no.

Some manufacturers specify Pantone colors as touch up for their products, but Pantone does not work well as a proxy for a touch-up solution (for a litany of reasons such as it doesn't include sheen and Pantone color tolerances are not tight enough for touch up). When we match Pantone colors we are matching to a swatch in a Pantone book - not to your product.

The only way we can provide a touch-up solution for your product is for you send us a part. We would use the part to create a touch-up grade match. Unfortunately, there isn't an effective way to 'spec' the color well enough to produce a touch up without the part.

How do I convert PMS 218 C to a different color from another paint company?

While MyPerfectColor can provide PMS 218 C in paint, we don't provide any crossover information.
