Pantone™ PMS 176 C

Pantone PMS 176 C should not be used as a touch-up reference for existing finishes. Pantone codes specify color but do not define gloss, substrate, or the original coating process, which are all key for seamless touch-up. Visual differences may occur due to changes in sheen, material, and the original color aging over time. For best results, PMS 176 C should be used as a target for new production or branding projects, not to blend with existing finishes.

The need for a primer when using PMS 176 C matched paint depends on the substrate, paint type, and exposure. New, unpainted, or porous surfaces like bare metal, plastic, or wood often require a primer for optimal adhesion and coverage. A primer may also be needed when covering dark or uneven colors to achieve accurate, vivid results. Pantone PMS 176 C is a common brand-standard reference for fabricated signs, display elements, and exhibits where color consistency is important. When using PMS 176 C for fabrication, order the color in the intended paint format and finish, and sample it on the actual substrate. Evaluate the sample under the lighting and gloss expected in the final setting, as these factors can change the perceived color. This process helps ensure an accurate visual match for brand-driven projects.

The choice between matte and gloss for PMS 176 C depends on viewing distance, lighting, and desired visual impact. A gloss finish increases brightness and perceived color saturation but may show glare under strong lighting. Matte finishes reduce reflections and help with close-up clarity, especially in well-lit environments, but can mute the punch of the color. Some manufacturers specify Pantone colors as touch up for their products, but Pantone does not work well as a proxy for a touch-up solution (for a litany of reasons such as it doesn't include sheen and Pantone color tolerances are not tight enough for touch up). When we match Pantone colors we are matching to a swatch in a Pantone book - not to your product.

The only way we can provide a touch-up solution for your product is for you send us a part. We would use the part to create a touch-up grade match. Unfortunately, there isn't an effective way to 'spec' the color well enough to produce a touch up without the part.

The 11oz spray will cover about 20 square feet per coat. Keep in mind that it is difficult to gauge how much spray you'll need as it is highly dependent on how it is applied. It is better to have too much than run short.
