PMS 175 C is part of the Pantone PMS (Pantone Matching System) collection, designed for precision in branding, signage, and product design. The vibe is grounded, professional, muted, substantial, and technical, making it appropriate for situations where a stable, neutral appearance is required.

PMS 175 C appears very dark, with a notably low LRV of 5.84, indicating strong light absorption. The color has a distinctly warm tendency, sitting near the earthy orange-yellow portion of the spectrum. Saturation is moderate to low, which gives it a muted and understated quality rather than a vibrant or energetic effect. PMS 175 C exhibits a brown base with a subtle red-orange undertone visible under strong lighting conditions. This color's appearance may be influenced by finish choice, tending to look richer in gloss and more matte or subdued in flat finishes.

PMS 175 C is often used by organizations needing a deep, understated brown for packaging, point-of-purchase displays, or as a supporting brand color in visual identity systems.

PMS 175 C works effectively when a strong, neutral brown anchor is required, especially on branded display materials or as a key accent in corporate color palettes. Given its darkness, care should be taken with substrate preparation to ensure even coverage, and multiple coats may be needed, particularly in low-hide formulas. It may appear warmer or more neutral depending on ambient lighting and will tend to look more pronounced next to lighter or cooler colors.

This Pantone PMS color is defined by the Pantone Matching System standard. Evaluate the color using a physical Pantone reference and a real paint sample in the intended lighting and finish. Paint appearance varies by finish and lighting.

Frequently Asked Questions About Pantone™ PMS 175 C

What is the difference between the Pantone color name and code for PMS 175 C, and how should I specify it when ordering paint?

The code PMS 175 C uniquely identifies this specific Pantone color. The letter suffix 'C' refers to the coated reference in the Pantone system and is important for ordering the correct version. When requesting paint, always specify the full code 'PMS 175 C' rather than just the name or partial number. This ensures you receive the intended color as defined by the Pantone Matching System and minimizes the risk of an ordering error.

Are orders for Pantone matched paint like PMS 175 C custom made and can they be returned if not needed?

Paint made to match PMS 175 C is custom mixed for each order. Because of this, it is not returnable if the color, finish, or product type does not meet your needs. Carefully confirm the code, finish, and quantity before ordering, and consider sampling if the application is brand sensitive or if there is any uncertainty about the final result. Custom orders are not easily revised after production.

Why is PMS 175 C paint commonly required for sign, display, and exhibit fabrication?

PMS 175 C is a standardized color defined by the Pantone Matching System, making it a trusted target for brand-facing projects like signs, exhibits, and displays. Many brands specify Pantone colors to ensure visual uniformity across marketing materials and fabricated elements. For these applications, using paint matched precisely to PMS 175 C helps maintain consistent brand presentation. Sampling on your actual material is recommended to confirm appearance before full production, as finish and substrate can change how the color looks.

When is it recommended to sample PMS 175 C before full production?

Sampling PMS 175 C is advised for high-visibility brand installations, large signage, or display projects where visual accuracy is essential. It is especially important when painting on unfamiliar surfaces or under specific lighting conditions, since the appearance of PMS 175 C can change depending on substrate and environment. A physical sample gives stakeholders the best opportunity to approve color accuracy before committing to a full order.

How quickly will I receive my paint matched to Pantone PMS 175 C?
All paint is custom-made to order. While most orders ship within 48 hours, the lead-time for paint made to match Pantone PMS 175 C depends on the type of paint needed. Interior and exterior house paints usually ship within 1 to 3 business days, while custom spray paint typically takes 3-5 business days to ship. The transit time depends on your location and the shipping method you choose. If your need is immediate, select Expedited Production during checkout. Most expedited production orders ship within 24 hours on business days. Please contact MyPerfectColor if you are concerned about a specific deadline. We do our best to make sure you get your paint on time. Learn more about paint lead times at MyPerfectColor.
Can I use the Pantone PMS 175 C for touch up?

Unfortunately, no.

Some manufacturers specify Pantone colors as touch up for their products, but Pantone does not work well as a proxy for a touch-up solution (for a litany of reasons such as it doesn't include sheen and Pantone color tolerances are not tight enough for touch up). When we match Pantone colors we are matching to a swatch in a Pantone book - not to your product.

The only way we can provide a touch-up solution for your product is for you send us a part. We would use the part to create a touch-up grade match. Unfortunately, there isn't an effective way to 'spec' the color well enough to produce a touch up without the part.

Most people don't use a primer for a touch up paint application, but a primer may improve adhesion and is typically recommended for exterior applications.
How do I convert PMS 175 C to a different color from another paint company?

While MyPerfectColor can provide PMS 175 C in paint, we don't provide any crossover information. We've found that every paint company offers its own unique selection of colors and rarely does a color have an exact equivalent in another company's color collection, especially for a color collection like Pantone which is designed for bright colors and inks.
