PMS 469 C is part of the Pantone PMS (Pantone Matching System) collection, widely used for brand identity and specification purposes. The color conveys a vibe that is earthy, restrained, utilitarian, and stable. It is a dark brown with muted saturation and a subtle warm undertone, making it effective when a sense of reliability or an unshowy backdrop is desired in marketing environments, displays, and fabricated components where color accuracy is critical.

PMS 469 C appears very dark, with a low LRV (5.09), resulting in minimal reflection and high visual weight.

The color trends warm but without a strong overtone, yielding a muted brown that avoids red or orange dominance.

The saturation is moderate to low, producing an earthy, subdued look rather than a vivid or intense appearance.

Undertones skew subtly towards yellow-brown, enhancing the organic effect.

PMS 469 C is sensitive to finish: high-gloss may make it appear slightly richer, while matte finishes emphasize its understated nature.

PMS 469 C works well in applications where a dark, grounded color is needed without drawing attention away from other design elements. It is effective for creating contrast with lighter specification colors or as a background in branded environments. When using this color, assess substrate preparation and application technique to ensure uniform coverage, as dark, muted hues can reveal inconsistencies in the surface or coating. Lighting has a moderate effect; under cool lighting, PMS 469 C may appear more neutral or even slightly ashy, while warm lighting tends to enrich its brown undertone. When comparing to similar colors, PMS 469 C is less saturated and more muted, offering a softer, more conventional look relative to brighter browns or reddish-browns.

Similar colors:

  • PMS 462 C – Similar darkness but with a more neutral undertone and slightly less warmth.
  • PMS 476 C – Deeper and cooler, approaching an espresso brown, for increased visual weight.
  • PMS 1545 C – Noticeably warmer with more orange and red undertones, creating a stronger presence.

Frequently Asked Questions About Pantone™ PMS 469 C

How should I use PMS 469 C in sign, display, or exhibit fabrication to ensure brand consistency?

PMS 469 C is frequently specified for sign, display, and exhibit projects where brand consistency is essential. Using a Pantone PMS color target like PMS 469 C helps align fabricated elements with brand standards across different vendors and locations. To achieve the most reliable result, use the approved Pantone reference when ordering paint or coatings. If the finished appearance will be evaluated by brand stakeholders or viewed under varied lighting, request a sample of PMS 469 C applied to your actual substrate to confirm the match before full production. This approach helps you verify color accuracy and finish before committing to the entire project.

Where can I find the Safety Data Sheet (SDS) for paint in PMS 469 C?

The SDS for PMS 469 C paint depends on the specific paint product or format rather than the color itself. Look up the SDS for the type of paint you are using, such as spray paint, water-based acrylic, or urethane. The color code PMS 469 C does not determine the SDS content. For access to the relevant SDS, use the SDS library and select the specific product you plan to order in PMS 469 C.

How does surface texture affect the appearance of PMS 469 C paint?

The texture of your substrate or finish can noticeably change how PMS 469 C appears. Matte or rough textures will scatter light and may make PMS 469 C look softer and less intense, while glossy or smooth finishes can enrich its dark brown look and slightly increase visual depth. Texture variations can also create shadowing that causes the color to appear uneven or highlights surface flaws, especially with a dark, muted shade like PMS 469 C. For critical branded applications, it is best to test the paint on your actual target surface to evaluate the effect of texture before full production.

What should I know about hide and undercoat strategies for PMS 469 C paint applications?

PMS 469 C is a dark, muted brown with moderate to low saturation, so it typically achieves decent hide but can emphasize inconsistencies in surface preparation or application. For best results and uniform coverage, apply the paint over a properly primed surface with suitable color. On high-contrast or porous substrates, consider a brown or gray-tinted undercoat to improve coverage and reduce the number of topcoats needed. Apply multiple thin coats of PMS 469 C as needed to achieve true color and consistent finish, allowing each layer to dry thoroughly for best brand appearance.

How quickly will I receive my paint matched to Pantone PMS 469 C?
All paint is custom-made to order. While most orders ship within 48 hours, the lead-time for paint made to match Pantone PMS 469 C depends on the type of paint needed. Interior and exterior house paints usually ship within 1 to 3 business days, while custom spray paint typically takes 3-5 business days to ship. The transit time depends on your location and the shipping method you choose. If your need is immediate, select Expedited Production during checkout. Most expedited production orders ship within 24 hours on business days. Please contact MyPerfectColor if you are concerned about a specific deadline. Can I use the Pantone PMS 469 C for touch up?

Unfortunately, no.

Some manufacturers specify Pantone colors as touch up for their products, but Pantone does not work well as a proxy for a touch-up solution (for a litany of reasons such as it doesn't include sheen and Pantone color tolerances are not tight enough for touch up). When we match Pantone colors we are matching to a swatch in a Pantone book - not to your product.

The only way we can provide a touch-up solution for your product is for you send us a part. We would use the part to create a touch-up grade match. Unfortunately, there isn't an effective way to 'spec' the color well enough to produce a touch up without the part.

How much area will one spray can cover? And what is Pantone PMS 469 C spray paint made of?

While MyPerfectColor can provide PMS 469 C in paint, we don't provide any crossover information.
