PMS 149 C is part of the Pantone Matching System, widely used in brand specification and visual identity programs. This color presents a light, warm, and soft appearance, often described as approachable, clean, and understated with a distinctly peach or pale orange character. The overall visual effect is gentle and non-intense, making it suitable for applications demanding clarity and subtlety rather than vividness.

PMS 149 C exhibits a light appearance; LRV is 64.07, indicating high reflectance and brightness. The color shows a clear warm tendency, falling within the orange-yellow part of the hue spectrum. The saturation is moderate, delivering visible color without the intensity or richness of more chromatic oranges. Undertones are notably peach and apricot, presenting very little visual grayness or neutrality. The color may show some finish sensitivity; higher-gloss finishes can increase perceived warmth and chromaticity.

PMS 149 C functions best where a light, warm peach or soft apricot tone can contribute to gentle brand expression, background fields, or accent elements. It generally maintains clarity on clean, primed surfaces, but appearance can vary with finish; gloss will emphasize its warmth while matte or flat finishes may create a more subdued effect. Lighting conditions—especially warmer or cooler ambient sources—may influence the color’s perceived warmth and lightness, so always confirm color choices using both a physical Pantone reference and a real paint sample under project lighting. Visually, PMS 149 C is lighter and less chromatic than most orange Pantone selections, and it stands apart from both bolder oranges and mute, gray-inflected peach tones.

This Pantone PMS color is defined by the Pantone Matching System standard. Evaluate the color using a physical Pantone reference and a real paint sample in the intended lighting and finish. Paint appearance varies by finish and lighting.

Frequently Asked Questions About Pantone™ PMS 149 C

How many coats should I expect to apply when using paint matched to Pantone PMS 149 C for displays or branded elements?

When using paint matched to Pantone PMS 149 C, expect that achieving uniform color coverage may require multiple coats. While PMS 149 C is a light peach color with moderate saturation, lighter and less opaque colors can sometimes allow substrate color to show through, especially over dark or highly contrasting surfaces. For best results and visual brand consistency, apply paint to a clean, properly primed white or neutral base and plan for at least two coats, checking for even color and hiding after each. Surface type, preparation, and chosen finish also affect coverage.

Do I need to use a primer when applying paint matched to Pantone PMS 149 C?

Using a primer is often recommended when applying paint matched to Pantone PMS 149 C, particularly if the substrate is bare, porous, previously painted a dark color, or not uniform in tone. Primers help achieve better adhesion and more even color coverage, which is especially important for lighter colors like PMS 149 C. The specific need for primer depends on the type of paint, the material being painted, and project requirements. Review product and substrate guidelines or consult your paint supplier for primer recommendations for your application.

Will PMS 149 C look different in matte versus gloss finishes even if it is matched correctly?

Yes, PMS 149 C can appear noticeably different depending on the sheen or finish you select. Matte finishes may make the color look slightly lighter and more subdued, while gloss finishes can add depth and highlight the warmth and chromaticity of PMS 149 C. This means that a matte and a gloss sample of the same color code can look like different colors in actual use. Always evaluate samples in your chosen finish and lighting before finalizing your order for branded displays or marketing elements.

What is the typical lead time for custom paint matched to Pantone PMS 149 C?

Paint matched to Pantone PMS 149 C is made to order to ensure color accuracy for branding and marketing projects. Typical lead times depend on the product type (such as spray paint, paint pens, or other custom formats) and current production volume. Most orders are produced within several business days, but complex or large orders may require additional time. Always allow sufficient time for production and shipping when planning events or installations that require PMS 149 C.

How quickly will I receive my paint matched to Pantone PMS 149 C?
All paint is custom-made to order. While most orders ship within 48 hours, the lead-time for paint made to match Pantone PMS 149 C depends on the type of paint needed. Interior and exterior house paints usually ship within 1 to 3 business days, while custom spray paint typically takes 3-5 business days to ship. Can I use the Pantone PMS 149 C for touch up?

Unfortunately, no.

Some manufacturers specify Pantone colors as touch up for their products, but Pantone does not work well as a proxy for a touch-up solution (for a litany of reasons such as it doesn't include sheen and Pantone color tolerances are not tight enough for touch up). When we match Pantone colors we are matching to a swatch in a Pantone book - not to your product.

The only way we can provide a touch-up solution for your product is for you send us a part. We would use the part to create a touch-up grade match. Unfortunately, there isn't an effective way to 'spec' the color well enough to produce a touch up without the part.
