PMS 104 C is part of the Pantone PMS standard color system, commonly specified for brand-critical applications where precise color reproduction across materials is essential. This color is recognized for its earthy, muted, and utilitarian vibe, often perceived as subdued, technical, and somewhat olive-toned. Its mid-range lightness and green-yellow composition make it characteristic for applications seeking a controlled, understated hint of color that maintains visual clarity without high saturation.

PMS 104 C displays mid-level lightness (LRV 30.4), appearing neither very dark nor especially bright. The color has a distinctly warm undertone with a yellow-green hue that leans toward olive. The saturation is moderate, giving the color a muted and slightly subdued appearance compared to more vivid yellow-greens. The undertone is earthy, making PMS 104 C read as natural and slightly utilitarian. The color is sensitive to sheen: higher gloss finishes may cause it to appear lighter and more reflective, while matte finishes increase its perceived earthiness and depth.

PMS 104 C works well where a stable, natural-looking accent is required—such as in environmental branding, packaging prototypes, or retail displays aiming to evoke an organic or technical atmosphere. It should be evaluated in both natural and artificial lighting, as color perception can shift warmer or duller depending on the light source. When compared to similar yellow-greens, PMS 104 C maintains less vibrancy and greater neutrality, which can help minimize visual fatigue in larger applications or in contexts where a less aggressive color presence is needed. For best results, use physical samples and confirm finish type in the final environment.

Similar colors:
PMS 103 C – Darker and even more muted, with a deeper olive cast.

PMS 105 C – Darker and more desaturated, with a brownish undertone.

Frequently Asked Questions About Pantone™ PMS 104 C

How is Pantone PMS 104 C typically used in sign, display, and exhibit fabrication?

Pantone PMS 104 C is often specified by brand standards for signs, displays, and exhibits to ensure consistent visual identity across all elements. When fabricating components that require precise color targeting, PMS 104 C gives you a defined reference for approval. For best results, always sample PMS 104 C on the actual substrate intended for final use, since the appearance can change significantly depending on material and finish. This step helps ensure the finished signage or display accurately represents brand intent under real-world lighting conditions.

How do I choose the right paint type for using Pantone PMS 104 C in interior versus exterior environments?

Choosing the appropriate paint type for PMS 104 C depends on where and how the painted element will be used. For interior displays or signage, standard interior formulations will provide the needed appearance and durability. For any exterior use, select a paint specifically rated for outdoor exposure to resist weathering and fading. Confirm the product format is correct for your environment and substrate. If you are unsure, consult product guidance specific to your project application to ensure brand color integrity is maintained over time.

Why is it important to use both the name and code when ordering Pantone PMS 104 C paint?

Pantone PMS 104 C should be referenced with both its name and full code when ordering to avoid confusion and ensure the correct color standard is matched. The PMS code uniquely identifies the exact color target within the Pantone Matching System. Omitting the code or using the wrong suffix can result in receiving a different color, which may not meet brand specifications. Always double-check the required code and any suffix (such as 'C' for coated) before placing your order.

When should I use a primer before applying Pantone PMS 104 C paint?

Using a primer before applying PMS 104 C depends on the substrate type, finish required, and whether the surface is previously painted or bare. Primers improve adhesion and color uniformity, especially on bare materials, porous surfaces, or where color hide is a concern. For best results and to maximize the accuracy of PMS 104 C, follow primer recommendations provided for your chosen paint type and substrate. Proper preparation helps achieve true-to-standard brand color with consistent coverage.

How quickly will I receive my paint matched to Pantone PMS 104 C?
All paint is custom-made to order. While most orders ship within 48 hours, the lead-time for paint made to match Pantone PMS 104 C depends on the type of paint needed. Interior and exterior house paints usually ship within 1 to 3 business days, while custom spray paint typically takes 3-5 business days to ship. The transit time depends on your location and the shipping method you choose. If your need is immediate, select Expedited Production during checkout. Most expedited production orders ship within 24 hours on business days. Please contact MyPerfectColor if you are concerned about a specific deadline. Can I use the Pantone PMS 104 C for touch up?

Unfortunately, no.

Some manufacturers specify Pantone colors as touch up for their products, but Pantone does not work well as a proxy for a touch-up solution (for a litany of reasons such as it doesn't include sheen and Pantone color tolerances are not tight enough for touch up). When we match Pantone colors we are matching to a swatch in a Pantone book - not to your product.

The only way we can provide a touch-up solution for your product is for you send us a part. We would use the part to create a touch-up grade match. Unfortunately, there isn't an effective way to 'spec' the color well enough to produce a touch up without the part.

How do I convert PMS 104 C to a different color from another paint company?

While MyPerfectColor can provide PMS 104 C in paint, we don't provide any crossover information.
