RAL 9018 Papyrus White Paint

Use the RAL 9018 Papyrus White code when you need the standardized color target. Send a physical sample when acceptance depends on matching an existing coating, not just the RAL standard.

Send a sample if:

• High-visibility or large-area surfaces will be compared side-by-side.
• Acceptance is strict (customer inspection, side-by-side approval, or documented tolerances).
• You must match an existing coated part (including specific OEM powder brand/series) rather than the RAL standard swatch.
• Different processes/materials will sit adjacent (e.g., powder-coated frame next to liquid-painted panel) and finish differences are not acceptable.

Ordering by the RAL code is typically sufficient if:

• Minor finish differences are acceptable (cross-material coordination where texture/gloss already differ).
• Low-criticality touch-up or functional protection on small areas.
• No formal side-by-side inspection is expected.

If sending a sample, include: a clean flat area at least 50×50 mm (2×2 in), known process details (powder brand/series/code if available), target gloss (e.g., 30/60/85 GU at 60 degrees), texture level (smooth/fine texture/orange peel), and substrate. This minimizes rework and reduces acceptance risk.

RAL 9018 is a color target, not a coating process. Powder coats often have orange peel or deliberate texture, while liquid paints typically lay smoother. Texture and gloss change how light reflects, which can make the same color appear lighter/darker or slightly different in hue.

What to decide:

• If adjacent parts must visually align, match to the actual part and specify gloss and texture requirements, not just the RAL code.
• For small touch-ups or non-adjacent components where some finish variation is acceptable, ordering by RAL 9018 is usually sufficient.

Practical notes:

• Touch-up liquids and aerosols are smooth; they will not replicate a textured powder surface.
• Specify the required sheen (e.g., matte, satin, gloss) to reduce perceived differences.

Lighting type and quality can shift the perceived hue of low-chroma neutrals like RAL 9018. A match that looks acceptable in daylight may differ under certain LEDs or fluorescents (metamerism), especially across different materials or processes.

To reduce risk:

• Define the inspection lighting (e.g., 4000K LED, CRI >=80, or daylight D65) in your acceptance criteria.
• Evaluate the standard swatch and production sample side-by-side under that lighting before release.
• If acceptance is under a specific light and a difference is visible, request a custom match to your part with the inspection light specified.

If lighting will vary and close visual harmony is sufficient (no formal side-by-side inspection), ordering RAL 9018 by code is generally appropriate.

However, keep in mind that our version of RAL9018 Papyrus White is based on the color swatch contained in the official RAL color book.
