• Cross-material coordination where textures and sheens already differ.
• Low-criticality repairs (chips, edge touch-ups) where an exact blend is not required.
• Situations without strict inspection criteria.

Send a sample or provide the OEM powder coating code when acceptance depends on matching an existing finish, not just the RAL target. Choose this path for:

• High-visibility cosmetic surfaces or large-area repaints.
• Formal inspection or tight acceptance criteria.
• A known OEM powder code or specific texture/sheens to replicate.

If you send a target, include: a representative part or panel, required sheen (60 degrees gloss), texture level, substrate, and the lighting/viewing conditions used for acceptance. This avoids rework and color disputes, especially since powder and liquid coatings can differ in sheen and texture even at the same RAL 6001 color point.

Lighting changes the perceived hue and depth, and green shades like RAL 6001 are sensitive to this. The same coating can appear cooler/warmer under different sources (daylight, LED, fluorescent, HID). To prevent disputes:

• Specify the acceptance light source and geometry (e.g., 45 degrees/0 degrees visual under a defined LED or daylight simulator).
• Evaluate and approve a drawdown or sample panel in the same lighting used for inspection and in-service conditions.
• Avoid mixed lighting during inspection; if unavoidable, state the primary light used for pass/fail.
• When matching an existing part, view both parts side-by-side under the agreed light before release.

Defining the inspection light upfront is as important as the RAL 6001 color callout and reduces metamerism-related rejections.

RAL 6001 specifies color only. Sheen and texture must be specified to align with your acceptance criteria.

• If acceptance is against an existing coated part: match that part's sheen (60 degrees gloss) and texture. Measure with a gloss meter if available, or send the part/panel for a sample-based match.
• If acceptance is against the RAL standard color target: state the desired sheen and allowable gloss tolerance at 60 degrees (and texture if relevant). Without a sheen spec, the same color may appear different and fail visual checks.
• Powder vs. liquid: the same RAL 6001 color can read differently with a sheen or texture change. Align the resin system and finish characteristics wherever possible.

When in doubt-especially for visible surfaces-provide a physical target or authorize a sample panel for approval before production.

Touch-up is effective for protection and visual continuity on small defects but will not replicate a factory finish on larger areas.

• Best use: chips, edges, hardware, small scratches. Expect acceptable color continuity but possible differences in sheen/texture.
• Not recommended: broad, uniform panels or high-visibility faces where blend lines and sheen shifts will be apparent.
• Align systems: choose a coating chemistry compatible with the existing finish (e.g., match the general resin family) for durability; RAL 6001 covers color only, not process.
• Process: clean, prep, and feather edges; apply light coats; verify appearance under the same lighting used for acceptance.
• If a near-invisible repair is required: provide an existing part/panel and request a sample-based match including sheen/texture, or plan a panel repaint rather than spot touch-up.
