RAL 5024 Pastel Blue Paint

RAL 5024 Pastel Blue is a standardized color target. The RAL code defines the color, not the coating process, sheen, or texture. Our standard production matches the RAL target in liquid paint; it will not duplicate a specific OEM powder's gloss or texture unless you request it.

Use standard RAL 5024 when:

• Cross-material coordination is needed and textures/sheens already differ (e.g., metal frame to plastic trim).
• Low-criticality touch-ups where functional protection or general visual harmony is sufficient.
• The acceptance is explicitly "match the RAL standard" under neutral lighting, not "match this part."

Request a sample-based or OEM-specific match when:

• High-visibility cosmetic surfaces or large-area repaints are involved.
• Strict inspection/acceptance is expected (e.g., side-by-side with an existing part).
• You know the OEM powder code/gloss/texture and need continuity with that finish.

To avoid rejections, include on your PO: (1) target is "RAL standard" or "match existing part/OEM code," (2) required sheen and any texture/smooth requirement, (3) viewing/lighting for inspection, and (4) whether acceptance is visual only or will be instrument-checked. If any of these are unknown, request an approved spray-out/drawdown before production.

Select the tool based on defect size and visibility:

• Touch-up pen (fine tip): hairline scratches, pinhead chips, edges. Fast and precise, minimal masking. Best for small, non-critical areas.
• Brush bottle: small chips and nicks where you need film build. Good control; may show brush texture on smooth/glossy panels.
• Aerosol spray: larger spots and panels, or when you need to blend. Ideal where a brushed patch would telegraph. Use light, multiple passes to minimize edge mapping.

Notes specific to RAL 5024 Pastel Blue on powder-coated parts:

• Powder textures and gloss vary; liquid touch-up will match the RAL color but may not replicate texture/sheen. Aerosol generally blends less visibly than a pen or brush.
• For inspection-critical surfaces or if the existing coating has a distinct gloss/texture, consider an OEM/surface-specific match and verify with a test spray-out.

Color appearance changes with lighting (metamerism) and surface effects. RAL 5024 Pastel Blue matched in liquid paint may appear different from a textured or glossier powder-coated part under certain lights. Differences are more noticeable when comparing smooth vs textured or matte vs gloss finishes.

To control acceptance risk:

• Define inspection lighting (e.g., typical factory LEDs or D65 daylight) and viewing angle before ordering.
• Compare the part to the RAL 5024 standard chip and/or an approved spray-out on the same substrate under the agreed lighting.
• Avoid judging across mixed conditions (one part in daylight, another under cool LED). If cross-environment consistency is critical, request a sample match evaluated in your actual lighting.

Primer needs depend on substrate and whether metal is exposed:

• Bare carbon steel/iron: use a corrosion-inhibiting metal primer after cleaning and surface prep.
• Galvanized steel: use a galvanized-compatible wash/etch or bonding primer after proper cleaning.
• Aluminum: use an adhesion-promoting/etch or epoxy primer; conversion coating if your process requires it.
• Stainless steel: abrade and degrease; use an adhesion-promoting epoxy primer.
• Plastics (ABS, PVC, etc.): clean thoroughly and use a plastic adhesion promoter; verify compatibility on a small area.
• Previously coated/powder-coated surfaces: if coating is intact, clean and scuff; spot-prime only where substrate is exposed.

Process tips:

• Surface prep (clean, degloss, remove corrosion) is as important as primer choice.
• Primer shade influences hiding; a neutral gray undercoat helps RAL 5024 Pastel Blue reach target color with fewer coats and reduces perceived shift over light/dark patches.
• If the project has aggressive service conditions, specify the coating system (primer/topcoat) to the environment first, then confirm RAL 5024 color.
