Step 1: Select Paint Type / Application

A match of US Government Fed Std 595C 30140 is a deep, muted brown with a warm red-yellow cast. It reads earthy rather than bright, with low chroma and a relatively low light reflectance, so the color tends to look subdued and grounded.

MyPerfectColor custom spray paint matched to this Fed Standard reference can be used on equipment panels, brackets, enclosures, housings, cabinets, rails, support hardware, fabricated parts, and color-coded accessories that need to follow the same government color target. It is a practical option for maintenance touch-up, retrofit work, mock-ups, and prototype parts where a consistent reference matters more than a decorative finish.

Because this is a darker, muted color, sheen and surface texture can have a noticeable effect on the final appearance. Smooth, well-prepared substrates usually read more evenly, while rough or glossy surfaces can make film build and finish differences easier to see. A standard code match defines the color target, but it does not automatically reproduce an older in-service coating that has faded, worn, or changed gloss over time.

About US Government Federal Standard (now Aerospace Material Specification / AMS) 595 Colors. Fed-Std-595C / FED STD 595 Colors

The Federal Standard (now Aerospace Material Specification / AMS) 595 colors are used to specify colors for US Government applications. The color are used by the US Government agencies, branches and suppliers. The most common requests we receive for Fed Standard Colors are for spray paint, Direct to Metal and other paints for prototyping, marking and identification and touchup applications. Typical clients include the USCG, all branches of the Armed Services, the State Department, Lockheed Martin and Boeing. For example, we provided paint to the Navy for marking shells with the specific Fed Std color designated to identify the type of round.

We offer 5 standard sheens in our lacquer touchup paint: flat, low lustre, satin, semi-gloss or gloss. We also offer a full range of Alkyd and Acrylic Direct To Metal paints. Please contact us if you have any questions. Please submit RFQs to [email protected]

The colors in the Federal Standard set have no official names and are identified by five-digits. The numbers designate the sheen, color classification and color intensity.

The first digit will be 1,2 or 3 and indicates the level of sheen:
    1 = gloss
    2 = semi gloss
    3 = matt

The second digit indicates the color group;
      0 = Brown     5 = Blue
      1 = Red         6 = Grey
      2 = Orange   7 = Other (white, black, violet, metallic)
      3 = Yellow     8 = Fluorescent
      4 = Green

The third to fifth digits indicate the intensity. Lower numbers indicates a darker color and higher numbers indicate a lighter color.

While the Fed Std colors indicate sheen as part of the 5 digits, MyPerfectColor still requires you to enter a specific sheen. For example, the color Fed Std 37038 technically refers to a matte finish, but MyPerfectColor offers it in any sheen.

Frequently Asked Questions About Match of US Government™ Fed Std 595C 30140 *

What does Fed Std 595C 30140 mean, and does it define the full coating system for my project?

A match of US Government Fed Std 595C 30140 is a government color reference target. It tells you which color you are trying to match, but it does not by itself define the coating chemistry, gloss, surface prep, corrosion system, or any formal approval status. MyPerfectColor can make a custom-matched paint to the selected Fed Std 595C 30140 reference, but you still need to choose the right product format and finish for the job.

If I need to touch up an older part with Fed Std 595C 30140, will a standard color match always blend with the existing finish?

Not always. Fed Std 595C 30140 gives you the reference color, but an older in-service coating can look different because of weathering, fade, sheen change, texture, film build, or a different coating system. If the repair is next to an aged or highly visible finish, a standard code match may still read differently on the part. In that case, a full-part repaint or a match to the existing part may be the better choice.

How should I plan dry time and recoating for MyPerfectColor Fed Std 595C 30140 paint?

Plan around the specific product format you order, not just the color code. Fed Std 595C 30140 tells you the target color, but dry-to-touch time, recoat timing, and full cure depend on the paint chemistry, film thickness, temperature, humidity, and substrate. Treat dry-to-touch, recoat, and full cure as different milestones and follow the product instructions for the exact item you purchase.

How do I reorder Fed Std 595C 30140 so multiple parts stay as consistent as possible?

Reorder by the exact code, Fed Std 595C 30140, and also keep the same product type and finish if you need the closest repeatable result. MyPerfectColor paint matched to the selected government color reference can be supplied in different formats, and those choices can affect how the color reads after application. Substrate, preparation, and application method still matter, so use the same process on all parts whenever possible.

What should I check before ordering a custom match of Fed Std 595C 30140?

Before ordering, confirm the exact color code, product type, finish, and quantity. MyPerfectColor custom-matched paint is made to the selected Fed Std 595C 30140 reference, so getting the order details right matters. Custom-made color matches are typically not returnable or refundable, so review the specification carefully before you buy.
