A match of US Government Fed Std 595C 20155 is a deep, muted brown with a warm cast toward red and yellow. It reads earthy rather than clean or gray, and its low lightness gives it a fairly dark overall appearance once applied.
MyPerfectColor custom-matched paint in this government color reference is useful for touch-up and repaint work on metal panels, machine guards, electrical enclosures, brackets, cabinets, support frames, and fabricated housings. It also works for smaller spray-painted items such as switch covers, vents, grilles, hardware, railings, carts, and other color-coded parts when the goal is to stay aligned with the specified Fed Standard 595C target.
Because the color is relatively dark and restrained, it usually covers in a solid, low-key way, but finish and substrate can still change how it reads. Surface texture, film build, and gloss level may make the color look flatter or deeper, and repairs next to older or weathered coatings can show a visible difference even when the code match is correct.
For acceptance-critical or adjacency-sensitive work, a sample panel or a match to the existing part may be more appropriate than relying on the standard reference alone. This product is a MyPerfectColor match to the selected Fed Standard 595C color reference, not an official government-issued coating system.

About US Government Federal Standard (now Aerospace Material Specification / AMS) 595 Colors. Fed-Std-595C / FED STD 595 Colors
The Federal Standard (now Aerospace Material Specification / AMS) 595 colors are used to specify colors for US Government applications. The color are used by the US Government agencies, branches and suppliers. The most common requests we receive for Fed Standard Colors are for spray paint, Direct to Metal and other paints for prototyping, marking and identification and touchup applications. Typical clients include the USCG, all branches of the Armed Services, the State Department, Lockheed Martin and Boeing. For example, we provided paint to the Navy for marking shells with the specific Fed Std color designated to identify the type of round.
We offer 5 standard sheens in our lacquer touchup paint: flat, low lustre, satin, semi-gloss or gloss. We also offer a full range of Alkyd and Acrylic Direct To Metal paints. Please contact us if you have any questions. Please submit RFQs to [email protected]
The colors in the Federal Standard set have no official names and are identified by five-digits. The numbers designate the sheen, color classification and color intensity.
The first digit will be 1,2 or 3 and indicates the level of sheen:
1 = gloss
2 = semi gloss
3 = matt
The second digit indicates the color group;
0 = Brown 5 = Blue
1 = Red 6 = Grey
2 = Orange 7 = Other (white, black, violet, metallic)
3 = Yellow 8 = Fluorescent
4 = Green
The third to fifth digits indicate the intensity. Lower numbers indicates a darker color and higher numbers indicate a lighter color.
While the Fed Std colors indicate sheen as part of the 5 digits, MyPerfectColor still requires you to enter a specific sheen. For example, the color Fed Std 37038 technically refers to a matte finish, but MyPerfectColor offers it in any sheen.
Frequently Asked Questions About Match of US Government™ Fed Std 595C 20155 *
Does Fed Std 595C 20155 define the full coating system, or only the color target?
A match of US Government Fed Std 595C 20155 is a color reference target. It helps identify the expected color, but it does not by itself choose the paint chemistry, gloss, surface preparation, corrosion system, or approval status for the job.
For MyPerfectColor, the order is a custom-matched paint to the selected government color reference, so you still need to choose the product format and coating approach that fit your project.
Will MyPerfectColor Fed Std 595C 20155 match an older in-service part exactly?
Not always. A match of US Government Fed Std 595C 20155 is the standard color target, but an older coating may have faded, weathered, changed sheen, or built a different texture over time.
If you are touching up next to an existing finish, the standard match can still look different on the repaired area. For visible repairs, a full-part repaint or a match to the existing part may be the better choice if the project allows it.
Do I use Fed Std 595C 20155 or the MyPerfectColor product to get SDS and product data?
SDS and product data apply to the specific MyPerfectColor paint product you order, not to the Fed Std 595C 20155 color code itself.
The code identifies the color reference. The chosen product and chemistry determine the documentation, handling details, and application information you should follow.
What should I expect for dry time and recoat timing on Fed Std 595C 20155 paint?
Dry-to-touch, recoat timing, and full cure are different stages. The correct schedule depends on the specific MyPerfectColor product format you order for Fed Std 595C 20155.
Use the product page or technical data for the selected paint type to plan masking, handling, and the next coat. Do not assume spray paint, touch-up paint, and other formats all behave the same.
How do I reorder MyPerfectColor for Fed Std 595C 20155 and keep the color consistent?
Reorder by the exact color code, Fed Std 595C 20155, and keep the same product type and finish whenever possible. That gives you the best chance of matching previous orders across parts or repair cycles.
Even with the same code, substrate, application method, and film build can affect the final appearance. If the project is sensitive, keep a record of the original order details and verify the format before placing the reorder.
