A match of US Government Fed Std 595C 26134 reads as a dark, low-chroma neutral gray with only a faint green-yellow bias. It is subdued rather than clean or bright, and the low LRV means it will look deep once applied, especially in smoother or glossier finishes.
For specification-driven work, MyPerfectColor custom-matched paint in this color can be used on equipment panels, brackets, housings, enclosures, vent covers, switch plates, racks, field cases, and other fabricated parts that need a government-standard reference. It is also suited to touch-up on maintenance items, prototype hardware, and color-coded components where a consistent visual target matters more than a decorative finish.
Because this is a dark, near-neutral color, finish and substrate can change how it reads. Texture, sheen, and film build may make it appear slightly lighter or darker after application, and gloss surfaces can show surface condition and repair edges more clearly. If you are matching an older in-service coating, note that the standard reference and the aged part may not look identical; a sample panel or part-specific match can be useful when the surrounding finish is critical.
The Fed Std 595C code defines the color reference, not the coating chemistry, gloss level, or approval status. MyPerfectColor supplies its own paint matched to the selected government color standard for practical maintenance, fabrication, restoration, and prototyping work.

The Federal Standard (now Aerospace Material Specification / AMS) 595 colors are used to specify colors for US Government applications. The color are used by the US Government agencies, branches and suppliers. The most common requests we receive for Fed Standard Colors are for spray paint, Direct to Metal and other paints for prototyping, marking and identification and touchup applications. Typical clients include the USCG, all branches of the Armed Services, the State Department, Lockheed Martin and Boeing. For example, we provided paint to the Navy for marking shells with the specific Fed Std color designated to identify the type of round.
We offer 5 standard sheens in our lacquer touchup paint: flat, low lustre, satin, semi-gloss or gloss. We also offer a full range of Alkyd and Acrylic Direct To Metal paints. Please contact us if you have any questions. Please submit RFQs to [email protected]
The colors in the Federal Standard set have no official names and are identified by five-digits. The numbers designate the sheen, color classification and color intensity.
The first digit will be 1,2 or 3 and indicates the level of sheen:
1 = gloss
2 = semi gloss
3 = matt
The second digit indicates the color group;
0 = Brown 5 = Blue
1 = Red 6 = Grey
2 = Orange 7 = Other (white, black, violet, metallic)
3 = Yellow 8 = Fluorescent
4 = Green
The third to fifth digits indicate the intensity. Lower numbers indicates a darker color and higher numbers indicate a lighter color.
While the Fed Std colors indicate sheen as part of the 5 digits, MyPerfectColor still requires you to enter a specific sheen. For example, the color Fed Std 37038 technically refers to a matte finish, but MyPerfectColor offers it in any sheen.
A match of US Government Fed Std 595C 26134 is a government color reference target, not a complete coating specification. When you order from MyPerfectColor, you are choosing paint matched to Fed Std 595C 26134, but you still need to decide the chemistry, gloss, surface prep, primer, and application method for your project. For compliance-sensitive work, confirm that the color reference is only one part of the requirement.
Not always. Even if the color code is correct, an older coating can look different because of fade, weathering, sheen change, texture, or prior repairs. A MyPerfectColor match to Fed Std 595C 26134 is a good starting point for standard-reference work, but for visible touch-up next to an aged finish, a full-part repaint or an existing-part match may be a better choice.
A match of US Government Fed Std 595C 26134 is commonly used on specification-driven work such as equipment parts, panels, brackets, enclosures, housings, fixtures, training aids, mock-ups, and color-coded hardware. If your drawing, maintenance document, or procurement package calls out Fed Std 595C 26134, MyPerfectColor can supply paint matched to that reference for practical maintenance, fabrication, prototyping, or restoration work.
Clean the surface first, remove oil and grease, then scuff or sand as needed for adhesion. If the part has rust, corrosion, or an unknown existing coating, address that before painting. For metal or mixed substrates, primer choice matters, so it is best to test on the actual part or a representative sample before coating the full area with MyPerfectColor paint matched to Fed Std 595C 26134.
A match of US Government Fed Std 595C 26134 can be ordered in MyPerfectColor custom-matched paint in formats such as spray paint and other touch-up or brush-in options where available. The color code is the reference target, and the format should be chosen based on the part size, application method, and whether you need a quick touch-up or a larger repaint.
