A match of US Government Fed Std 595C 24165 is a dark, low-chroma gray-green with an earthy cast. It reads more muted than clean, with a subdued green undertone and a relatively deep value, so it does not appear bright or saturated once applied.

MyPerfectColor custom spray paint matched to this government color reference can be used on metal panels, brackets, housings, enclosures, support hardware, racks, carts, and other fabricated parts where a consistent specification color is needed. It is also a practical choice for touch-up on switch covers, vent grilles, fixtures, or accessory components that need to stay aligned with a Fed Std 595C target across different materials.

Because this is a dark, muted color, surface condition and finish can change how it reads. Gloss level, film build, and substrate color may make small differences more noticeable, and touch-up next to older or weathered coatings may not visually blend the same way as a match to a new standard chip. If the project is acceptance-critical, a sample panel or match to the existing part can be worthwhile before full application.

About US Government Federal Standard (now Aerospace Material Specification / AMS) 595 Colors. Fed-Std-595C / FED STD 595 Colors

The Federal Standard (now Aerospace Material Specification / AMS) 595 colors are used to specify colors for US Government applications. The color are used by the US Government agencies, branches and suppliers. The most common requests we receive for Fed Standard Colors are for spray paint, Direct to Metal and other paints for prototyping, marking and identification and touchup applications. Typical clients include the USCG, all branches of the Armed Services, the State Department, Lockheed Martin and Boeing. For example, we provided paint to the Navy for marking shells with the specific Fed Std color designated to identify the type of round.

We offer 5 standard sheens in our lacquer touchup paint: flat, low lustre, satin, semi-gloss or gloss. We also offer a full range of Alkyd and Acrylic Direct To Metal paints. Please contact us if you have any questions. Please submit RFQs to [email protected]

The colors in the Federal Standard set have no official names and are identified by five-digits. The numbers designate the sheen, color classification and color intensity.

The first digit will be 1,2 or 3 and indicates the level of sheen:
    1 = gloss
    2 = semi gloss
    3 = matt

The second digit indicates the color group;
      0 = Brown     5 = Blue
      1 = Red         6 = Grey
      2 = Orange   7 = Other (white, black, violet, metallic)
      3 = Yellow     8 = Fluorescent
      4 = Green

The third to fifth digits indicate the intensity. Lower numbers indicates a darker color and higher numbers indicate a lighter color.

While the Fed Std colors indicate sheen as part of the 5 digits, MyPerfectColor still requires you to enter a specific sheen. For example, the color Fed Std 37038 technically refers to a matte finish, but MyPerfectColor offers it in any sheen.

Frequently Asked Questions About Match of US Government™ Fed Std 595C 24165 *

What does Fed Std 595C 24165 mean, and does it define the full coating system?

A match of US Government Fed Std 595C 24165 is a government color reference target. It tells you the color to match, but it does not by itself define the paint chemistry, gloss level, surface preparation, corrosion protection, or any formal approval status.

If your project needs a specific coating system, check the drawing, specification, or approval requirements separately. MyPerfectColor can supply paint matched to Fed Std 595C 24165, but the color code alone does not answer every project requirement.

Will Fed Std 595C 24165 match an older in-service part for touch-up?

Not always. A correct match to Fed Std 595C 24165 can still look different next to an existing coating that has faded, weathered, changed sheen, or built up texture over time.

For a small touch-up, the standard match may be close enough. For a visible repair, acceptance-critical work, or a part with obvious aging, a full-part repaint or a match to the existing part may be the better choice.

Is Fed Std 595C 24165 enough to choose the right paint for interior, exterior, or chemical exposure?

No. Fed Std 595C 24165 gives you the color reference, but it does not determine whether the paint is right for the service environment.

You still need to choose the product type based on the substrate, exposure, abrasion, chemical contact, and required durability. MyPerfectColor can match the color, but the project conditions should drive the coating selection.

What MyPerfectColor product formats can I order for Fed Std 595C 24165?

A match of US Government Fed Std 595C 24165 can be ordered in MyPerfectColor custom spray paint and, where available, other matching formats such as touch-up paint, paint pens, and brush-in-cap bottles.

The color code is the reference target. The format you choose should depend on how you plan to apply the paint, the size of the repair, and the surface being coated.

What should I confirm before ordering Fed Std 595C 24165 as a custom match?

Before ordering Fed Std 595C 24165, confirm the exact color code, the product format, the finish, and the quantity you need.

Custom-made color matches are made to order and should be reviewed carefully before purchase, because they are not returnable or refundable. If the job is acceptance-critical, verify the specification or existing part requirements before you place the order.
