A match of US Government Fed Std 595C 34160 is a dark, low-chroma gray with a restrained green-olive cast. It reads more muted than colorful, with little saturation and a practical, utilitarian appearance rather than a bright or clean neutral.
MyPerfectColor custom spray paint matched to the selected Fed Standard 595C reference can be used on brackets, enclosures, panels, housings, switch covers, vents, hardware, racks, and fabricated parts when a repeatable visual target is needed. It also fits touch-up work on carts, fixtures, tool components, railings, and other small surfaces where the goal is to stay aligned with the specified Fed Std 595C color rather than guess at an approximate match.
Because this is a darker, subdued color, surface texture, gloss level, and film thickness can change how it reads after application. Older coatings beside the repair may look different even when the code match is correct, and sheen differences can be noticeable on smoother parts. If you are matching an aged in-service finish, a project-specific sample or comparison to the existing part may be more useful than the standard reference alone.

The Federal Standard (now Aerospace Material Specification / AMS) 595 colors are used to specify colors for US Government applications. The color are used by the US Government agencies, branches and suppliers. The most common requests we receive for Fed Standard Colors are for spray paint, Direct to Metal and other paints for prototyping, marking and identification and touchup applications. Typical clients include the USCG, all branches of the Armed Services, the State Department, Lockheed Martin and Boeing. For example, we provided paint to the Navy for marking shells with the specific Fed Std color designated to identify the type of round.
We offer 5 standard sheens in our lacquer touchup paint: flat, low lustre, satin, semi-gloss or gloss. We also offer a full range of Alkyd and Acrylic Direct To Metal paints. Please contact us if you have any questions. Please submit RFQs to [email protected]
The colors in the Federal Standard set have no official names and are identified by five-digits. The numbers designate the sheen, color classification and color intensity.
The first digit will be 1,2 or 3 and indicates the level of sheen:
1 = gloss
2 = semi gloss
3 = matt
The second digit indicates the color group;
0 = Brown 5 = Blue
1 = Red 6 = Grey
2 = Orange 7 = Other (white, black, violet, metallic)
3 = Yellow 8 = Fluorescent
4 = Green
The third to fifth digits indicate the intensity. Lower numbers indicates a darker color and higher numbers indicate a lighter color.
While the Fed Std colors indicate sheen as part of the 5 digits, MyPerfectColor still requires you to enter a specific sheen. For example, the color Fed Std 37038 technically refers to a matte finish, but MyPerfectColor offers it in any sheen.
A match of US Government Fed Std 595C 34160 is a government color reference target. It tells you which color to match, but it does not by itself choose the coating chemistry, gloss, surface preparation, corrosion protection, application method, or any formal approval status. If your project needs a specific system, select that separately from the color match.
Not always. An existing finish can change with weathering, fade, sheen loss, texture, or prior repainting, so a correct match to Fed Std 595C 34160 may still look different next to an in-service part. If the repaired area is highly visible or acceptance-critical, a sample panel or a match to the existing part can be safer than matching the standard alone.
MyPerfectColor can provide a custom match to Fed Std 595C 34160 in available product formats such as spray paint, touch-up paint, paint pens, brush-in-cap bottles, epoxy, urethane, or other options depending on the listing. Choose the format based on the part, the application method, and the durability your project needs, not just the color code.
Review the order carefully before you buy. Custom color matches for Fed Std 595C 34160 should be confirmed for the exact code, product type, finish, and quantity because custom-made matches are not returnable or refundable. If the job depends on a specific sheen or coating type, verify that before placing the order.
No. Fed Std 595C 34160 identifies the color target, but your service environment still determines the right product. Interior use, exterior exposure, abrasion, chemical contact, and substrate type may all point to different MyPerfectColor options, so confirm the environment and performance needs before ordering.
