Step 1: Select Paint Type / Application

A match of US Government Fed Std 595C 16376 reads as a subdued gray-green with low chroma, a soft earthy cast, and moderate depth. It is not a bright or clean green; the gray component keeps it restrained and practical-looking.

MyPerfectColor custom spray paint matched to this Fed Std 595C reference is suited to specification-driven work, not an official government-issued coating system. It can be used on equipment panels, brackets, enclosures, cabinets, vents, switch covers, railings, and other fabricated parts that need a consistent color reference. It also fits maintenance touch-up on carts, housings, hardware, and training or prototype pieces where a quiet gray-green finish is needed.

Because the color is relatively muted, it usually reads steadily, but final appearance still depends on substrate color, surface texture, film build, and sheen. On older or weathered coatings, the standard match may still look different beside faded paint or a changed finish, so project-specific approval matters when the surrounding part is already in service.

About US Government Federal Standard (now Aerospace Material Specification / AMS) 595 Colors. Fed-Std-595C / FED STD 595 Colors

The Federal Standard (now Aerospace Material Specification / AMS) 595 colors are used to specify colors for US Government applications. The color are used by the US Government agencies, branches and suppliers. The most common requests we receive for Fed Standard Colors are for spray paint, Direct to Metal and other paints for prototyping, marking and identification and touchup applications. Typical clients include the USCG, all branches of the Armed Services, the State Department, Lockheed Martin and Boeing. For example, we provided paint to the Navy for marking shells with the specific Fed Std color designated to identify the type of round.

We offer 5 standard sheens in our lacquer touchup paint: flat, low lustre, satin, semi-gloss or gloss. We also offer a full range of Alkyd and Acrylic Direct To Metal paints. Please contact us if you have any questions. Please submit RFQs to [email protected]

The colors in the Federal Standard set have no official names and are identified by five-digits. The numbers designate the sheen, color classification and color intensity.

The first digit will be 1,2 or 3 and indicates the level of sheen:
    1 = gloss
    2 = semi gloss
    3 = matt

The second digit indicates the color group;
      0 = Brown     5 = Blue
      1 = Red         6 = Grey
      2 = Orange   7 = Other (white, black, violet, metallic)
      3 = Yellow     8 = Fluorescent
      4 = Green

The third to fifth digits indicate the intensity. Lower numbers indicates a darker color and higher numbers indicate a lighter color.

While the Fed Std colors indicate sheen as part of the 5 digits, MyPerfectColor still requires you to enter a specific sheen. For example, the color Fed Std 37038 technically refers to a matte finish, but MyPerfectColor offers it in any sheen.

Frequently Asked Questions About Match of US Government™ Fed Std 595C 16376 *

What does Fed Std 595C 16376 mean when ordering MyPerfectColor paint, and what does it not tell me?

A match of US Government Fed Std 595C 16376 is a color reference target. It tells you which government-standard color to match, but it does not by itself define the coating chemistry, gloss level, surface prep, corrosion protection, or any formal approval status.

When you order, think of it as MyPerfectColor custom-matched paint made to match the selected government color reference. If your project has a required coating system or acceptance process, you still need to choose the right product type and confirm those requirements separately.

Will Fed Std 595C 16376 match an older painted part during touch-up?

It may not match an aged part perfectly, even if the code is correct. Weathering, fade, sheen changes, texture, and differences in the old coating can all make the repaired area look different from the surrounding finish.

If the repair is visible or acceptance-critical, a full-part repaint or a match to the existing in-service part can be safer than relying on the standard code alone. A small test area on the actual substrate is often the best way to check the result before committing to the full job.

Does the finish change how Fed Std 595C 16376 looks after application?

Yes. The same Fed Std 595C 16376 color can look different depending on gloss, matte, satin, texture, and film build. The color code defines the target color, but the final appearance also depends on the finish and how the paint is applied.

If the surrounding part already has a specific sheen or texture, try to match that as closely as possible. If you are unsure, test the selected product and finish on the actual surface before painting the full part.

How do I keep repeat orders of Fed Std 595C 16376 consistent across multiple parts?

Reorder by the exact code, and keep the same product type and finish each time. For Fed Std 595C 16376, the color reference stays the same, but substrate, primer, application method, and film build can still change how the finished part looks.

For the most consistent result, document what you used on the first part, including the format, finish, and prep steps. That makes it easier to repeat the same result on later parts or replacement pieces.

What surface prep should I use before applying Fed Std 595C 16376 to metal or an existing coating?

Start by cleaning and degreasing the surface, then remove loose rust, corrosion, or failing paint. Sound existing coating usually needs to be scuff-sanded so the new paint can bond properly.

Primer choice depends on the substrate, condition, and exposure of the part. For mixed materials or older coatings, test Fed Std 595C 16376 on the actual surface first so you can confirm adhesion and appearance before painting the full job.
