A match of US Government Fed Std 595C 16357 is a muted, medium-depth neutral with a gray-beige base and a restrained yellow-green undertone. It reads as low-chroma and slightly earthy rather than clean or bright, with enough depth to look substantial without becoming dark.
MyPerfectColor custom spray paint matched to this government color standard is often used for specification-driven touch-up on equipment panels, enclosures, brackets, housings, cabinet doors, vents, switch covers, hardware, and fabricated parts. It can also work for color-coding carts, fixtures, maintenance accessories, or mock-up components when the goal is to keep separate parts aligned to the same reference color.
Because the color is subdued, it tends to show surface condition, texture, and sheen variation more than strong hue. Film build, finish, and substrate color can shift the appearance slightly, so darker or uneven bases may need proper prep and coverage to keep the match even. If the part has sanding marks, dents, or prior repairs, those differences can still show through.
Fed Std 595C 16357 identifies a color reference, not a coating system or approval status. If you are matching an older in-service part, weathering, fading, or a different sheen may make the existing finish read differently from the standard itself, so project-specific acceptance requirements matter.

About US Government Federal Standard (now Aerospace Material Specification / AMS) 595 Colors. Fed-Std-595C / FED STD 595 Colors
The Federal Standard (now Aerospace Material Specification / AMS) 595 colors are used to specify colors for US Government applications. The color are used by the US Government agencies, branches and suppliers. The most common requests we receive for Fed Standard Colors are for spray paint, Direct to Metal and other paints for prototyping, marking and identification and touchup applications. Typical clients include the USCG, all branches of the Armed Services, the State Department, Lockheed Martin and Boeing. For example, we provided paint to the Navy for marking shells with the specific Fed Std color designated to identify the type of round.
We offer 5 standard sheens in our lacquer touchup paint: flat, low lustre, satin, semi-gloss or gloss. We also offer a full range of Alkyd and Acrylic Direct To Metal paints. Please contact us if you have any questions. Please submit RFQs to [email protected]
The colors in the Federal Standard set have no official names and are identified by five-digits. The numbers designate the sheen, color classification and color intensity.
The first digit will be 1,2 or 3 and indicates the level of sheen:
1 = gloss
2 = semi gloss
3 = matt
The second digit indicates the color group;
0 = Brown 5 = Blue
1 = Red 6 = Grey
2 = Orange 7 = Other (white, black, violet, metallic)
3 = Yellow 8 = Fluorescent
4 = Green
The third to fifth digits indicate the intensity. Lower numbers indicates a darker color and higher numbers indicate a lighter color.
While the Fed Std colors indicate sheen as part of the 5 digits, MyPerfectColor still requires you to enter a specific sheen. For example, the color Fed Std 37038 technically refers to a matte finish, but MyPerfectColor offers it in any sheen.
Frequently Asked Questions About Match of US Government™ Fed Std 595C 16357 *
What does Fed Std 595C 16357 tell me, and what does it not tell me?
Fed Std 595C 16357 identifies the color reference target. It does not by itself define the coating chemistry, gloss, surface preparation, corrosion system, or approval status. For specification-driven work, order MyPerfectColor custom-matched paint for Fed Std 595C 16357, then confirm the product format and finish required by your project.
Will Fed Std 595C 16357 match an older in-service part exactly?
Not always. Weathering, fading, sheen change, texture, and the old coating system can make a correct Fed Std 595C 16357 match look different next to an aged part. If the repair is highly visible or acceptance-critical, a sample panel or a match to the existing part may be safer than matching the standard alone.
Is Fed Std 595C 16357 a good match target for parts, panels, and prototypes?
Yes, when the goal is a specification-driven color target for equipment parts, panels, enclosures, brackets, mock-ups, or color-coded hardware. MyPerfectColor can supply custom-matched paint for Fed Std 595C 16357 in formats such as spray paint or touch-up paint, which is useful when the project needs a consistent reference color across different substrates or suppliers.
What should I confirm before ordering Fed Std 595C 16357 custom-matched paint?
Confirm the exact code, the product format you need, the finish or gloss level required by the job, and the quantity before you place the order. Custom-matched colors for Fed Std 595C 16357 are made to order, so they should be reviewed carefully because they are not returnable or refundable once mixed.
How should I plan dry time and recoating for Fed Std 595C 16357?
Dry-to-touch, recoat timing, and full cure are different milestones, and the selected product format should drive the plan. Use the instructions for the specific MyPerfectColor product matched to Fed Std 595C 16357, and do not assume that spray paint, touch-up paint, and other formats share the same dry or recoat window.
