A match of US Government Fed Std 595C 36307 reads as a muted gray with a slight green-olive undertone. It is low in chroma, so the color stays restrained rather than clean or bright, and the LRV suggests a medium-dark appearance that can look a bit deeper once applied in a full film build.

MyPerfectColor custom-matched paint to this Fed Standard 595C reference is practical for specification-driven work such as equipment panels, enclosures, brackets, housings, cabinets, support hardware, and other fabricated parts. It can also be used for color-coding maintenance accessories, switch covers, vents, railings, or small replacement components where a matched government standard color is needed on a finished part.

As with many standard-reference matches, the final appearance can shift with substrate, surface texture, sheen, and film thickness. A smooth gloss finish can make the color read a little darker and more defined, while rough or porous surfaces may soften it. If you are matching an older in-service coating, the existing part may have faded or changed sheen, so a standard match may not look identical to weathered surrounding paint.

MyPerfectColor supplies its own paint matched to the selected government color reference, not an official government coating system. For acceptance-sensitive or compliance-sensitive work, the standard code alone may not be enough if the project also calls for a specific finish, coating system, or approved sample.

About US Government Federal Standard (now Aerospace Material Specification / AMS) 595 Colors. Fed-Std-595C / FED STD 595 Colors

The Federal Standard (now Aerospace Material Specification / AMS) 595 colors are used to specify colors for US Government applications. The color are used by the US Government agencies, branches and suppliers. The most common requests we receive for Fed Standard Colors are for spray paint, Direct to Metal and other paints for prototyping, marking and identification and touchup applications. Typical clients include the USCG, all branches of the Armed Services, the State Department, Lockheed Martin and Boeing. For example, we provided paint to the Navy for marking shells with the specific Fed Std color designated to identify the type of round.

We offer 5 standard sheens in our lacquer touchup paint: flat, low lustre, satin, semi-gloss or gloss. We also offer a full range of Alkyd and Acrylic Direct To Metal paints. Please contact us if you have any questions. Please submit RFQs to [email protected]

The colors in the Federal Standard set have no official names and are identified by five-digits. The numbers designate the sheen, color classification and color intensity.

The first digit will be 1,2 or 3 and indicates the level of sheen:
    1 = gloss
    2 = semi gloss
    3 = matt

The second digit indicates the color group;
      0 = Brown     5 = Blue
      1 = Red         6 = Grey
      2 = Orange   7 = Other (white, black, violet, metallic)
      3 = Yellow     8 = Fluorescent
      4 = Green

The third to fifth digits indicate the intensity. Lower numbers indicates a darker color and higher numbers indicate a lighter color.

While the Fed Std colors indicate sheen as part of the 5 digits, MyPerfectColor still requires you to enter a specific sheen. For example, the color Fed Std 37038 technically refers to a matte finish, but MyPerfectColor offers it in any sheen.

Frequently Asked Questions About Match of US Government™ Fed Std 595C 36307 *

What does Fed Std 595C 36307 mean, and does the color code tell me which coating system to order?

A match of US Government Fed Std 595C 36307 is a government color reference target. It tells you which color to match, but it does not by itself specify the paint chemistry, gloss, surface prep, primer, application method, or formal approval status.

If your project only calls for the color reference, order MyPerfectColor paint matched to Fed Std 595C 36307. If the work is acceptance-critical or compliance-sensitive, confirm the full coating requirement separately before ordering.

Will MyPerfectColor paint matched to Fed Std 595C 36307 blend with an older in-service finish?

Not always. Even when the code is correct, weathering, fade, sheen changes, texture, and prior coating differences can make an older finish look different from a fresh application.

If you are repairing next to an aged part, a match to the existing surface or a full-part repaint may be a better choice than matching the standard chip alone. For critical visible repairs, test on the actual part before doing the full job.

What kinds of projects commonly use Fed Std 595C 36307?

A match of US Government Fed Std 595C 36307 is commonly used for specification-driven work such as equipment parts, panels, enclosures, brackets, housings, fixtures, color-coded hardware, training aids, mock-ups, and prototype pieces.

It is a practical reference for maintenance, fabrication, restoration, and procurement work where the drawing, manual, or bid package calls out a government color standard. It is not a decor color choice.

Is Fed Std 595C 36307 enough to choose the right paint for interior or exterior service?

No. Fed Std 595C 36307 only identifies the color target. The right product for interior, exterior, abrasion exposure, chemical exposure, or repeated handling depends on the coating chemistry and the substrate.

Choose the paint system based on the service environment and the material being coated, then match the color to 36307. If the part will live outdoors or in a harsh environment, make sure the coating system is suitable before you order.

How should I prep metal before applying Fed Std 595C 36307?

Start with a clean, dry surface. Remove oil, grease, and loose contamination, then address rust or failing coating before painting. If the existing finish is sound, scuff it so the new coating can bond properly.

Use a primer that fits the substrate and the condition of the surface, especially on bare metal or mixed substrates. Because Fed Std 595C 36307 is only a color reference, good prep is still required for adhesion and durability.

Should I order Fed Std 595C 36307 as spray paint, touch-up paint, or another format?

Choose the format based on how you will apply the paint and how large the repair is. A match of US Government Fed Std 595C 36307 can be ordered in MyPerfectColor custom spray paint and other formats for specification-driven color work.

For small repairs or hard-to-reach areas, a touch-up format may be easier. For larger parts or repeatable application, spray paint or another suitable format may be the better fit. The color target stays the same, but the best format depends on the job.
