A match of US Government Fed Std 595C 33538 reads as a vivid warm yellow-orange with an amber cast and strong chroma. It is bright without looking pastel, and its lightness can help it stand out on small parts and detailed hardware.
MyPerfectColor custom spray paint is a match of Fed Std 595C 33538 for specification-driven work on panels, enclosures, brackets, housings, carts, switch covers, guards, and other fabricated parts that need a repeatable visual target. It can also be used for color-coded components, training pieces, prototype parts, and restoration or maintenance work where the drawing or document calls out the government color standard.
Because the color is relatively vivid, coverage can be more sensitive to substrate color and film build than a muted neutral. Dark or uneven bases may show through sooner, and sheen differences can change how saturated the finish appears after application. On larger or highly visible parts, careful prep and more than one light coat may help the color read more evenly.
This is a match to the selected Fed Std 595C reference, not a guarantee of the appearance of an aged in-service coating or a project-specific approved finish. If the part you are repairing has faded, weathered, or changed sheen, the standard chip and the existing surface may not align exactly even when the code is correct.

The Federal Standard (now Aerospace Material Specification / AMS) 595 colors are used to specify colors for US Government applications. The color are used by the US Government agencies, branches and suppliers. The most common requests we receive for Fed Standard Colors are for spray paint, Direct to Metal and other paints for prototyping, marking and identification and touchup applications. Typical clients include the USCG, all branches of the Armed Services, the State Department, Lockheed Martin and Boeing. For example, we provided paint to the Navy for marking shells with the specific Fed Std color designated to identify the type of round.
We offer 5 standard sheens in our lacquer touchup paint: flat, low lustre, satin, semi-gloss or gloss. We also offer a full range of Alkyd and Acrylic Direct To Metal paints. Please contact us if you have any questions. Please submit RFQs to [email protected]
The colors in the Federal Standard set have no official names and are identified by five-digits. The numbers designate the sheen, color classification and color intensity.
The first digit will be 1,2 or 3 and indicates the level of sheen:
1 = gloss
2 = semi gloss
3 = matt
The second digit indicates the color group;
0 = Brown 5 = Blue
1 = Red 6 = Grey
2 = Orange 7 = Other (white, black, violet, metallic)
3 = Yellow 8 = Fluorescent
4 = Green
The third to fifth digits indicate the intensity. Lower numbers indicates a darker color and higher numbers indicate a lighter color.
While the Fed Std colors indicate sheen as part of the 5 digits, MyPerfectColor still requires you to enter a specific sheen. For example, the color Fed Std 37038 technically refers to a matte finish, but MyPerfectColor offers it in any sheen.
Fed Std 595C 33538 defines the color reference target only. It does not by itself choose the paint chemistry, gloss, surface prep, corrosion protection, or any formal approval status. If you need MyPerfectColor paint for 33538, select the product type and finish that fit the job, then use the code as the color target.
Not always. A correct match to Fed Std 595C 33538 can still look different next to an existing coating that has faded, weathered, changed sheen, or been applied over a different substrate. If the repair must blend into an aged part, a full-part repaint or a match to the existing surface may be the safer choice than matching the standard chip alone.
The color code Fed Std 595C 33538 is the color reference. SDS and product data belong to the specific MyPerfectColor paint you order, not to the code itself. If your project is compliance-sensitive, review the documentation for the selected product and confirm whether the project needs more than a standard color match.
Reorder by the exact code Fed Std 595C 33538, the same product type, and the same finish whenever possible. That gives you the best chance of repeat consistency. Even then, the final appearance can still change with substrate, surface prep, film build, and application method, so keep those variables consistent across parts when you can.
A match of US Government Fed Std 595C 33538 can be ordered as MyPerfectColor custom-matched paint in formats such as spray paint, touch-up paint, paint pens, and brush-in-cap bottles where available. Use the color code as the reference target, then choose the format that fits the repair, part size, and application method.
