A match of US Government AMS-STD-595 13655 reads as a bright, warm yellow-orange with strong chroma and a clear, vivid cast. It sits in the lighter middle range rather than feeling deep or muted, so the color tends to stand out on a part or panel.
For government-standard work, MyPerfectColor custom-matched paint gives you a practical match to this AMS-STD-595 reference. The code defines the color target, but not the coating system, gloss level, or approval status, so the final result still depends on the substrate, preparation, and application method.
This color can work for color-coded equipment panels, control boxes, brackets, enclosures, carts, training aids, fabricated parts, and other sprayable components where a specified reference needs to be repeatable. It also fits touch-up on hardware, switch covers, small housings, and maintenance accessories when the goal is to match the standard rather than estimate the color by eye.
Because the color is strong and high-chroma, coverage may take more care over dark or uneven substrates, and thin film build can allow show-through. Sheen and surface texture can change how intense it reads; gloss usually makes it look cleaner and more saturated, while rougher surfaces can soften it. For repair work beside older coatings, the standard match may still differ from weathered paint or a project-specific approved finish.

The Federal Standard (now Aerospace Material Specification / AMS) 595 colors are used to specify colors for US Government applications. The color are used by the US Government agencies, branches and suppliers. The most common requests we receive for Fed Standard Colors are for spray paint, Direct to Metal and other paints for prototyping, marking and identification and touchup applications. Typical clients include the USCG, all branches of the Armed Services, the State Department, Lockheed Martin and Boeing. For example, we provided paint to the Navy for marking shells with the specific Fed Std color designated to identify the type of round.
We offer 5 standard sheens in our lacquer touchup paint: flat, low lustre, satin, semi-gloss or gloss. We also offer a full range of Alkyd and Acrylic Direct To Metal paints. Please contact us if you have any questions. Please submit RFQs to [email protected]
The colors in the Federal Standard set have no official names and are identified by five-digits. The numbers designate the sheen, color classification and color intensity.
The first digit will be 1,2 or 3 and indicates the level of sheen:
1 = gloss
2 = semi gloss
3 = matt
The second digit indicates the color group;
0 = Brown 5 = Blue
1 = Red 6 = Grey
2 = Orange 7 = Other (white, black, violet, metallic)
3 = Yellow 8 = Fluorescent
4 = Green
The third to fifth digits indicate the intensity. Lower numbers indicates a darker color and higher numbers indicate a lighter color.
While the Fed Std colors indicate sheen as part of the 5 digits, MyPerfectColor still requires you to enter a specific sheen. For example, the color Fed Std 37038 technically refers to a matte finish, but MyPerfectColor offers it in any sheen.
A match of US Government AMS-STD-595 13655 is a government color reference target for the US Government color standard. It tells you the color to ask for, but it does not by itself define the coating chemistry, gloss level, surface prep, corrosion system, application method, or any formal approval status. If your project needs a specific coating system or acceptance requirement, confirm those details separately from the color code.
Not always. A correct match of AMS-STD-595 13655 can still look different next to an in-service coating that has faded, weathered, changed sheen, or been applied over a different substrate. If the repair is beside an aged finish and visual consistency is critical, a sample panel or an existing-part match may be safer than relying on the standard code alone.
No. AMS-STD-595 13655 gives you the color target, but you still need to choose a product that fits the service environment. Interior use, exterior exposure, abrasion, chemical contact, and the substrate all affect the right product choice. For MyPerfectColor, the paint is custom-matched to the selected government color reference, but the coating type still has to fit the job requirements.
Reorder by the exact code, AMS-STD-595 13655, and keep the same product type and finish whenever possible. That gives you the best chance of repeatable results across parts or future touch-up work. Even so, substrate, surface prep, and application method can change the final appearance, so save the original order details if you may need to match it again.
MyPerfectColor can provide a custom-matched paint for AMS-STD-595 13655 in formats such as spray paint, touch-up paint, paint pens, brush-in-cap bottles, and other options where available. The color code is the reference target, not a product line, so choose the format based on how you will apply the paint and what surface you are repairing or coating.
