PMS 2089 U is a Pantone PMS color specified as a visual color target for consistent brand communication. It presents a dark, vivid purple-magenta character with a dramatic, modern, and assertive presence.
The color appears dark with an LRV of 16.36 and reads as cool-leaning with a pronounced purple-magenta bias. It shows high saturation and strong chroma, with a magenta undertone that can shift in prominence depending on lighting.
This color works well when strong contrast and brand visibility are priorities, particularly on focal elements rather than expansive surfaces. Its saturation and depth mean surface preparation, finish selection, and lighting evaluation can significantly influence final appearance and coverage expectations.
Similar colors:
PMS 2088 U: slightly lighter and less saturated, with a softer purple appearance.
PMS 2090 U: darker and heavier, with reduced magenta brightness.
Pantone 2597 U: more blue-leaning and cooler, with less red-magenta influence.

PMS 2089 U is a Pantone target color, but its appearance can change noticeably with finish choice. A gloss finish will usually make PMS 2089 U look darker and more saturated because it reflects more light directly. Satin or semi-gloss finishes tend to balance brightness and depth. Matte finishes can make PMS 2089 U appear lighter or slightly muted. When brand accuracy matters, you should evaluate the color in the same finish and lighting where it will be used, since finish is not defined by the Pantone code itself.
PMS 2089 U can be matched in paint for plastics, but plastics vary widely in surface energy and adhesion behavior. Many plastics require a specific primer or surface preparation step for the paint to bond correctly. Without proper preparation, even a visually accurate PMS 2089 U match may fail to adhere. For production or display components, testing the PMS 2089 U paint system on the actual plastic substrate is strongly recommended before committing to a full run.
PMS 2089 U does not have a guaranteed exact equivalent in other paint company color collections. Pantone PMS colors are a separate standard used for visual color communication, not a shared formula system. Cross-references, when offered, are approximations and can vary by brand, finish, and material. For brand-critical work, ordering a paint matched directly to PMS 2089 U is more reliable than choosing a named color from another system that claims to be similar.
When applying PMS 2089 U across larger surfaces, consistency is key. Use the same application method, spray setup, and coat thickness across the entire area. Plan for enough coats to achieve full hide, as saturated Pantone colors like PMS 2089 U may need additional coverage to avoid patchiness. Applying test panels first can help confirm that the color looks uniform and visually consistent before full-scale application.
Unfortunately, no.
Some manufacturers specify Pantone colors as touch up for their products, but Pantone does not work well as a proxy for a touch-up solution (for a litany of reasons such as it doesn't include sheen and Pantone color tolerances are not tight enough for touch up). When we match Pantone colors we are matching to a swatch in a Pantone book - not to your product.
The only way we can provide a touch-up solution for your product is for you send us a part. We would use the part to create a touch-up grade match. Unfortunately, there isn't an effective way to 'spec' the color well enough to produce a touch up without the part.

To make spray paint matched to Pantone PMS 2089 U. MyPerfectColor uses an acrylic enamel which is a fast-drying durable coating suitable for interior or exterior use. MyPerfectColor custom spray paint enables you to conveniently achieve a professional spray-smooth finish in any color in any sheen. It sticks well to most surfaces including metal, plastics, powder-coatings, cabinets and primed or previously painted wood.
The 11oz spray will cover about 20 square feet per coat. Keep in mind that it is difficult to gauge how much spray you'll need as it is highly dependent on how it is applied. It is better to have too much than run short.
While MyPerfectColor can provide PMS 2089 U in paint, we don't provide any crossover information. We've found that every paint company offers its own unique selection of colors and rarely does a color have an exact equivalent in another company's color collection, especially for a color collection like Pantone which is designed for bright colors and inks.
