PMS 7401 U is a Pantone PMS color specified as a visual reference for consistent color reproduction across materials. It conveys a soft, airy, warm, approachable, and optimistic vibe without strong visual weight.

The color reads as very light, with an LRV of 78.51. It shows a warm yellow tendency with low-to-moderate saturation and a soft yellow undertone.

PMS 7401 U works well in brand experiences, signage, and display elements where a light, welcoming presence is needed. Because of its lightness, primer uniformity, finish choice, and lighting conditions can significantly influence the final appearance.

Similar colors:

PMS 7401 C: slightly brighter and cleaner, with a more open yellow appearance.
PMS 7402 U: deeper and warmer, with more visual weight and yellow density.
PMS 7400 U: lighter and softer, with reduced yellow presence and contrast.

Frequently Asked Questions About Pantone™ PMS 7401 U

What does the "U" mean in Pantone PMS 7401 U, and why does it matter when ordering paint?

In Pantone PMS 7401 U, the "U" indicates the uncoated Pantone reference. Pantone colors can appear different depending on the series or suffix used in brand standards, such as coated or uncoated references. When ordering paint, you should confirm that PMS 7401 U is the exact reference specified in your brand documentation, since a different suffix can lead to a noticeably different visual result.

Is paint matched to Pantone PMS 7401 U returnable if the color is not approved?

Paint matched to Pantone PMS 7401 U is custom made to order. Because it is produced specifically for your request, it is not easily revised or resold. Before ordering larger quantities, it is a good practice to confirm the correct product type, sheen, and reference standard, and to order a sample if your project requires formal color approval.

How should I compare Pantone PMS 7401 U paint to a Pantone reference during approval?

When approving paint matched to Pantone PMS 7401 U, compare samples under consistent lighting and on the same or similar substrate whenever possible. Allow the paint to fully dry and cure before making a final judgment, as color can shift slightly during drying. Viewing samples under multiple lighting conditions can also help identify perceptual differences before final approval.

What is the typical lead time for paint matched to Pantone PMS 7401 U?

Paint matched to Pantone PMS 7401 U is made to order, so production time is not instant. Lead time can vary based on the paint format selected and current production volume. Planning ahead is recommended for marketing, display, or brand experience projects with fixed installation or launch dates.

How quickly will I receive my paint matched to Pantone PMS 7401 U?
All paint is custom-made to order. While most orders ship within 48 hours, the lead-time for paint made to match Pantone PMS 7401 U depends on the type of paint needed. Interior and exterior house paints usually ship within 1 to 3 business days, while custom spray paint typically takes 3-5 business days to ship. The transit time depends on your location and the shipping method you choose. If your need is immediate, select Expedited Production during checkout. Most expedited production orders ship within 24 hours on business days. Please contact MyPerfectColor if you are concerned about a specific deadline. We do our best to make sure you get your paint on time. Learn more about paint lead times at MyPerfectColor.
Can I use the Pantone PMS 7401 U for touch up?

Unfortunately, no.

Some manufacturers specify Pantone colors as touch up for their products, but Pantone does not work well as a proxy for a touch-up solution (for a litany of reasons such as it doesn't include sheen and Pantone color tolerances are not tight enough for touch up). When we match Pantone colors we are matching to a swatch in a Pantone book - not to your product.

The only way we can provide a touch-up solution for your product is for you send us a part. We would use the part to create a touch-up grade match. Unfortunately, there isn't an effective way to 'spec' the color well enough to produce a touch up without the part.

How do I convert PMS 7401 U to a different color from another paint company?

While MyPerfectColor can provide PMS 7401 U in paint, we don't provide any crossover information.
