PMS 812 U is a Pantone PMS color defined by its vivid, energetic pink-red appearance. The color communicates intensity and attention, making it appropriate for brand-driven environments where visual impact is a priority.

The color has a medium-light value with an LRV of 37.84 and a distinctly warm hue. It is highly saturated, reading clean and synthetic rather than muted or earthy.

PMS 812 U works best when evaluated under the actual lighting conditions of the finished environment. Due to its high saturation, a white or light-tinted primer and multiple thin coats can help achieve uniform coverage, particularly over darker or uneven surfaces.

Similar colors:

PMS 806 U: lighter and more fluorescent in appearance, with increased brightness.
PMS 811 U: slightly deeper and darker, with more red weight.
PMS 805 U: lighter and more open, with a softer pink character.

Frequently Asked Questions About Pantone™ PMS 812 U

Is there an exact equivalent to Pantone PMS 812 U in other paint brand color systems?

No. Pantone PMS 812 U is a Pantone color standard, not a formula that directly converts to other paint brand color collections. Most paint manufacturers use their own proprietary palettes, so any cross-reference is at best an approximation.

This limitation is more noticeable with vivid and highly saturated Pantone colors like PMS 812 U. If your project depends on brand accuracy, the safest approach is to order a Pantone-matched paint rather than relying on a suggested equivalent from another system.

What should I consider when applying Pantone PMS 812 U paint to metal or powder-coated parts?

When applying a Pantone PMS 812 U match to metal or existing powder-coated surfaces, surface preparation matters. Clean the surface thoroughly and scuff it as needed to promote adhesion. Existing coatings, gloss level, and substrate color can all affect how the final color appears.

Because bright Pantone colors can shift visually depending on surface and sheen, it is recommended to evaluate a sample on the actual metal or coated part before committing to full production.

How accurate can a paint match to Pantone PMS 812 U be, and what should I expect?

Pantone PMS 812 U can be accurately matched, but it is important to understand that Pantone colors are visual targets, not manufacturing formulas. Highly saturated hues like PMS 812 U are among the most challenging to reproduce consistently across different materials and finishes.

MyPerfectColor specializes in producing visually accurate Pantone matches, but final appearance can vary based on substrate, sheen, film thickness, and lighting. For high-visibility or brand-critical applications, reviewing a physical sample is strongly recommended.

Do I need to use a primer before applying Pantone PMS 812 U paint?

Whether a primer is needed before applying Pantone PMS 812 U depends on the substrate, the paint type selected, and the exposure conditions. Bare metal, plastics, or previously coated surfaces often benefit from a compatible primer to improve adhesion and color uniformity.

Because saturated colors like PMS 812 U can have lower hide, a primer can also help achieve a more consistent final appearance. If you are unsure, testing the paint system on your actual surface is the best way to confirm results.

How quickly will I receive my paint matched to Pantone PMS 812 U?
All paint is custom-made to order. While most orders ship within 48 hours, the lead-time for paint made to match Pantone PMS 812 U depends on the type of paint needed. Interior and exterior house paints usually ship within 1 to 3 business days, while custom spray paint typically takes 3-5 business days to ship. The transit time depends on your location and the shipping method you choose. If your need is immediate, select Expedited Production during checkout. Most expedited production orders ship within 24 hours on business days. Please contact MyPerfectColor if you are concerned about a specific deadline. We do our best to make sure you get your paint on time. Learn more about paint lead times at MyPerfectColor.
Can I use the Pantone PMS 812 U for touch up?

Unfortunately, no.

Some manufacturers specify Pantone colors as touch up for their products, but Pantone does not work well as a proxy for a touch-up solution (for a litany of reasons such as it doesn't include sheen and Pantone color tolerances are not tight enough for touch up). When we match Pantone colors we are matching to a swatch in a Pantone book - not to your product.

The only way we can provide a touch-up solution for your product is for you send us a part. We would use the part to create a touch-up grade match. Unfortunately, there isn't an effective way to 'spec' the color well enough to produce a touch up without the part.

How do I convert PMS 812 U to a different color from another paint company?

While MyPerfectColor can provide PMS 812 U in paint, we don't provide any crossover information.
