PMS 5493 U is a Pantone PMS color used as a standardized visual reference in brand, marketing, and display applications. It conveys a cool, composed, subdued, and contemporary blue-gray presence without appearing stark or overly industrial.
The color reads as a medium-dark tone with an LRV of 37.99. It leans cool with a blue-dominant cast, shows low to moderate saturation, and carries a subtle gray undertone that softens contrast.
PMS 5493 U works well where a controlled, low-contrast blue-gray is needed to support graphics, typography, or form without drawing excess attention. Because of its muted saturation, it is generally forgiving in matte and satin finishes, though surface preparation and even film build still affect uniformity.
As with many Pantone PMS colors, evaluating a real paint sample under the installed lighting can help confirm perceived depth and coolness before final production.
Similar colors:
PMS 5493 C: slightly cleaner and crisper, with less of the muted gray softness.
PMS 5487 U: darker and heavier, with a more subdued blue presence.
PMS 5503 U: lighter and more open, with a softer, airier appearance.

Ordering PMS 5493 U means you are requesting a paint matched to the Pantone PMS 5493 U color target. Pantone PMS is a visual color reference used to communicate brand color intent. It is not a paint formula, coating system, or finish specification.
The finished appearance of PMS 5493 U will be influenced by the product type, sheen, substrate, and lighting. The goal is visual alignment to the Pantone reference, not an exact material or process match.
Yes. If PMS 5493 U is part of a brand approval or signoff process, ordering a small sample first is the safest path. This allows stakeholders to evaluate the color on the actual substrate and under the installed lighting conditions.
Sampling helps confirm coverage, hide, and perceived color before committing to a larger order, especially for high-visibility brand applications.
Safety and VOC characteristics are determined by the specific paint product you choose, not by the PMS 5493 U color itself. Different formats and coatings have different handling, ventilation, and application requirements.
Always review the Safety Data Sheet for the exact product ordered and follow recommended safety practices for use, storage, and disposal.
If you need touch-up-grade accuracy to an existing painted surface, a Pantone PMS 5493 U match is usually not the best approach. Pantone colors are intended for brand color reproduction, not for matching aged or field-applied coatings.
For the closest visual result, send a physical part or sample for custom matching. This allows the color to be matched directly to the real surface rather than to a Pantone reference.
Unfortunately, no.
Some manufacturers specify Pantone colors as touch up for their products, but Pantone does not work well as a proxy for a touch-up solution (for a litany of reasons such as it doesn't include sheen and Pantone color tolerances are not tight enough for touch up). When we match Pantone colors we are matching to a swatch in a Pantone book - not to your product.
The only way we can provide a touch-up solution for your product is for you send us a part. We would use the part to create a touch-up grade match. Unfortunately, there isn't an effective way to 'spec' the color well enough to produce a touch up without the part.

To make spray paint matched to Pantone PMS 5493 U. MyPerfectColor uses an acrylic enamel which is a fast-drying durable coating suitable for interior or exterior use. MyPerfectColor custom spray paint enables you to conveniently achieve a professional spray-smooth finish in any color in any sheen. It sticks well to most surfaces including metal, plastics, powder-coatings, cabinets and primed or previously painted wood.
The 11oz spray will cover about 20 square feet per coat. Keep in mind that it is difficult to gauge how much spray you'll need as it is highly dependent on how it is applied. It is better to have too much than run short.
While MyPerfectColor can provide PMS 5493 U in paint, we don't provide any crossover information. We've found that every paint company offers its own unique selection of colors and rarely does a color have an exact equivalent in another company's color collection, especially for a color collection like Pantone which is designed for bright colors and inks.
