Pantone™ PMS 5487 U

PMS 5487 U defines a color target, not a finish. When the same Pantone color is produced in different sheens, the perceived color can change. Glossier finishes reflect more light and often appear deeper or more saturated, while matte or flat finishes scatter light and can look lighter or softer.

Because of this, a matte sample of PMS 5487 U can look noticeably different from a gloss sample even when both are matched to the same Pantone reference. Always compare samples in the same finish you plan to use for final approval.

For PMS 5487 U spray paint, multiple light coats generally produce a more even and predictable appearance than one heavy coat. Light passes help control film build and reduce the risk of uneven sheen or color density.

Allow each coat to flash off before applying the next. Follow the product instructions for general guidance, and test your process on a sample surface to confirm coverage and appearance before committing to the full piece.

PMS 5487 U is a color reference, not a material specification. Safety characteristics such as VOC content, ventilation needs, and personal protective equipment depend on the specific paint product and format you select.

Always review the Safety Data Sheet for the exact product ordered and follow all handling, application, and disposal instructions. Use appropriate ventilation and protective equipment based on the product guidelines.

Proper surface preparation is essential for consistent results with PMS 5487 U. Surfaces should be clean, dry, and free of dust, grease, or residues that could interfere with adhesion.

Light scuffing may be appropriate on smooth surfaces to promote bonding, depending on the substrate and product type. Always test a small area first to confirm adhesion, coverage, and final appearance before full application.

Unfortunately, no.

Some manufacturers specify Pantone colors as touch up for their products, but Pantone does not work well as a proxy for a touch-up solution (for a litany of reasons such as it doesn't include sheen and Pantone color tolerances are not tight enough for touch up). When we match Pantone colors we are matching to a swatch in a Pantone book - not to your product.

The only way we can provide a touch-up solution for your product is for you send us a part. We would use the part to create a touch-up grade match. Unfortunately, there isn't an effective way to 'spec' the color well enough to produce a touch up without the part.

The 11oz spray will cover about 20 square feet per coat. Keep in mind that it is difficult to gauge how much spray you'll need as it is highly dependent on how it is applied. It is better to have too much than run short.
