PMS 545 U is a Pantone PMS color specified as a visual standard for brand and marketing applications. It presents a calm, light blue-gray character that reads as clean, professional, muted, and unobtrusive without feeling stark.
The color appears light, with an LRV of 64.08, and shows a cool, blue-leaning temperature. Its low to moderate saturation and soft gray undertone reduce brightness and visual noise, and very matte finishes can make it appear flatter or more chalky.
PMS 545 U works well where visual calm and brand neutrality are important, especially under balanced or cool lighting. Because of its lightness, careful surface preparation and uniform priming can help avoid patchiness, and lower-sheen finishes often preserve its gray-blue balance better than high gloss.
The color is commonly used as a background or field color in branded displays, signage systems, and exhibit panels, where it supports typography, logos, and graphics without competing for attention.
Similar colors:
PMS 544 U: slightly darker and more muted, with increased gray presence.
PMS 545 C: a bit cleaner and brighter, with reduced gray softness.
PMS 543 U: darker and cooler, with more noticeable blue depth.

PMS 545 U is a Pantone reference color, and its appearance can shift based on lighting type, light intensity, and surrounding colors. Fluorescent, LED, and daylight sources can each change how the color is perceived, even when the paint match is accurate.
To avoid surprises, evaluate a painted sample of PMS 545 U under the same lighting and viewing conditions where it will be used. This is especially important for brand-facing displays, signage, or exhibits where color approval happens on site.
When applying a PMS 545 U color match to metal or previously powder-coated surfaces, proper surface preparation is critical. Existing coatings should be clean, lightly scuffed, and free of oils or residues to promote adhesion.
Keep in mind that the underlying surface color, texture, and gloss level can influence the final appearance. For high-visibility brand applications, it is recommended to apply PMS 545 U to a prepared sample piece and review it before committing to full production.
Pantone PMS 545 U is a visual color standard, not a paint formula, so matching it requires careful color reproduction. Differences in paint chemistry, finish, and substrate mean that an exact, absolute match across all conditions is not guaranteed.
MyPerfectColor specializes in producing visually accurate Pantone matches for branding and display use. For projects with strict brand approval or multiple materials, reviewing a sample of PMS 545 U in the actual finish and environment is the best way to confirm acceptance.
Whether a primer is needed for PMS 545 U depends on the substrate, the paint type, and the exposure conditions. Bare metals, plastics, or porous surfaces often benefit from a compatible primer to improve adhesion and color uniformity.
Using the correct primer can also help ensure that PMS 545 U appears consistent across parts, especially for branded displays or exhibits. When in doubt, applying PMS 545 U over a primed sample allows you to verify both adhesion and final appearance before ordering larger quantities.
Unfortunately, no.
Some manufacturers specify Pantone colors as touch up for their products, but Pantone does not work well as a proxy for a touch-up solution (for a litany of reasons such as it doesn't include sheen and Pantone color tolerances are not tight enough for touch up). When we match Pantone colors we are matching to a swatch in a Pantone book - not to your product.
The only way we can provide a touch-up solution for your product is for you send us a part. We would use the part to create a touch-up grade match. Unfortunately, there isn't an effective way to 'spec' the color well enough to produce a touch up without the part.

To make spray paint matched to Pantone PMS 545 U. MyPerfectColor uses an acrylic enamel which is a fast-drying durable coating suitable for interior or exterior use. MyPerfectColor custom spray paint enables you to conveniently achieve a professional spray-smooth finish in any color in any sheen. It sticks well to most surfaces including metal, plastics, powder-coatings, cabinets and primed or previously painted wood.
The 11oz spray will cover about 20 square feet per coat. Keep in mind that it is difficult to gauge how much spray you'll need as it is highly dependent on how it is applied. It is better to have too much than run short.
While MyPerfectColor can provide PMS 545 U in paint, we don't provide any crossover information. We've found that every paint company offers its own unique selection of colors and rarely does a color have an exact equivalent in another company's color collection, especially for a color collection like Pantone which is designed for bright colors and inks.
