PMS 524 U is part of the Pantone PMS collection and communicates a calm, understated violet impression. It reads as light, cool, subdued, refined, and contemporary, making it suitable for applications that require a gentle purple presence without strong saturation.
The color appears light, with an LRV of 64.08. This color leans cool, with a clear violet-purple tendency, and shows low to moderate saturation that keeps the appearance soft rather than vivid. A subtle gray undertone further reduces visual intensity.
PMS 524 U works well in controlled lighting environments where subtle color differences are visible and appreciated. As a light, muted hue, it can show variation over darker or uneven substrates, so a light or white primer can help achieve a more uniform result. Finish choice and lighting can influence whether the color reads more lavender or more neutral, so sampling under intended conditions is recommended.
Similar colors:
PMS 523 U: slightly darker and cooler, with a more pronounced violet depth.
PMS 525 U: lighter and cleaner, with less gray softness.
PMS 5235 U: more neutral and subdued, with reduced purple clarity.

Yes. Pantone PMS 524 U is commonly used as a brand-standard color target for signs, displays, and exhibit components where visual consistency matters. In these contexts, the Pantone code defines the intended appearance rather than a specific paint formula.
For fabricated elements, it is best practice to evaluate a sample of PMS 524 U on the actual substrate and finish being used. Material, sheen, and lighting can all influence how the color is perceived in a finished installation.
The SDS is not specific to Pantone PMS 524 U itself. Safety Data Sheets are tied to the paint product type, such as spray paint, epoxy, or urethane, rather than the Pantone color code.
To find the correct SDS, select the specific product format you are ordering in PMS 524 U and refer to the SDS library for that product. This ensures you are reviewing safety information that matches the actual coating being used.
Pantone PMS 524 U is a licensed color standard used to communicate an exact visual target across vendors and materials. Licensed reproduction means the Pantone reference is used correctly when creating the paint match.
This is important for brand-facing applications where approvals and consistency are required. Using an authorized Pantone reproduction helps reduce the risk of noticeable color variation between different components or production runs.
Whether a primer is needed for Pantone PMS 524 U depends on the paint type, the substrate, and the exposure conditions. Bare metals, plastics, and previously uncoated surfaces often require a primer for proper adhesion and uniform appearance.
Primer selection should be based on the specific product format and material being painted. When color accuracy is critical, applying a test sample over the intended primer and substrate is recommended before full production.
Unfortunately, no.
Some manufacturers specify Pantone colors as touch up for their products, but Pantone does not work well as a proxy for a touch-up solution (for a litany of reasons such as it doesn't include sheen and Pantone color tolerances are not tight enough for touch up). When we match Pantone colors we are matching to a swatch in a Pantone book - not to your product.
The only way we can provide a touch-up solution for your product is for you send us a part. We would use the part to create a touch-up grade match. Unfortunately, there isn't an effective way to 'spec' the color well enough to produce a touch up without the part.

To make spray paint matched to Pantone PMS 524 U. MyPerfectColor uses an acrylic enamel which is a fast-drying durable coating suitable for interior or exterior use. MyPerfectColor custom spray paint enables you to conveniently achieve a professional spray-smooth finish in any color in any sheen. It sticks well to most surfaces including metal, plastics, powder-coatings, cabinets and primed or previously painted wood.
The 11oz spray will cover about 20 square feet per coat. Keep in mind that it is difficult to gauge how much spray you'll need as it is highly dependent on how it is applied. It is better to have too much than run short.
While MyPerfectColor can provide PMS 524 U in paint, we don't provide any crossover information. We've found that every paint company offers its own unique selection of colors and rarely does a color have an exact equivalent in another company's color collection, especially for a color collection like Pantone which is designed for bright colors and inks.
