Pantone™ PMS 5235 U

PMS 5235 U is a Pantone PMS reference color, not a fixed paint formula. Each order is custom matched to the Pantone standard at the time of production. For the most consistent results across reorders, use the same product type, sheen, and application method each time.

If you are managing a brand approval workflow, approve a physical sample and keep that sample as your internal reference. Future orders should be compared against the same reference under similar lighting and on the same substrate to minimize perceived variation.

PMS 5235 U spray paint performs best when applied in multiple light coats rather than one heavy coat. Light coats help improve uniform coverage and reduce the risk of mottling or uneven appearance.

Allow each coat to flash off before applying the next. Flash time can vary based on temperature, humidity, and airflow, so follow the product instructions and avoid rushing the process. Final color appearance should be evaluated only after the coating has dried.

When approving PMS 5235 U, compare samples under consistent lighting conditions and on the same substrate type. Differences in lighting or surface texture can change how the color is perceived.

Always allow the paint to fully dry before making a final judgment. Wet paint can appear darker or glossier than its cured state, which can lead to incorrect approval decisions.

Whether a primer is needed for PMS 5235 U depends on the substrate, the paint type, and the exposure conditions. Smooth, sealed surfaces may not require primer, while porous or uneven substrates often benefit from one.

Using a compatible primer can improve adhesion and help achieve more uniform color appearance, especially on challenging surfaces. Review the product guidance for your selected paint format to determine if a primer is recommended for your application.

Some manufacturers specify Pantone colors as touch up for their products, but Pantone does not work well as a proxy for a touch-up solution (for a litany of reasons such as it doesn't include sheen and Pantone color tolerances are not tight enough for touch up). When we match Pantone colors we are matching to a swatch in a Pantone book - not to your product.

The only way we can provide a touch-up solution for your product is for you send us a part. We would use the part to create a touch-up grade match. Unfortunately, there isn't an effective way to 'spec' the color well enough to produce a touch up without the part.

The 11oz spray will cover about 20 square feet per coat. Keep in mind that it is difficult to gauge how much spray you'll need as it is highly dependent on how it is applied. It is better to have too much than run short.
