Pantone™ PMS 508 U

Pantone PMS 508 U is a visual color standard, not a paint formula. Most paint manufacturers create and control their own color palettes, so there is no universal or exact conversion from PMS 508 U to another brand's color code.

Any suggested cross reference would be an approximation and can shift noticeably depending on finish, substrate, and lighting. For brand-critical work, PMS 508 U should be treated as the target color itself, not translated through another color system.

Yes. For brand approval workflows, ordering a small sample of Pantone PMS 508 U is strongly recommended before committing to larger quantities.

Evaluate the sample on the actual substrate and under the installed lighting conditions. This allows stakeholders to sign off on color appearance, coverage, and visual impact before full production, reducing the risk of rework or rejection.

Finish has a significant effect on how Pantone PMS 508 U is perceived. Gloss finishes typically appear brighter and more saturated, while matte finishes can make the same color look softer and slightly darker.

Satin or semi-gloss finishes often fall between these extremes. Because Pantone defines color but not sheen, the chosen finish should be evaluated with a sample to confirm it meets brand expectations.

Whether a primer is needed for Pantone PMS 508 U depends on the substrate, paint type, and exposure conditions. Primers are commonly used to improve adhesion, even out surface color, and support uniform coverage.

This is especially important for highly saturated Pantone colors like PMS 508 U, which may require consistent base conditions to achieve the intended visual result. When in doubt, test with a primed sample on the actual surface.

Some manufacturers specify Pantone colors as touch up for their products, but Pantone does not work well as a proxy for a touch-up solution (for a litany of reasons such as it doesn't include sheen and Pantone color tolerances are not tight enough for touch up). When we match Pantone colors we are matching to a swatch in a Pantone book - not to your product.

The only way we can provide a touch-up solution for your product is for you send us a part. We would use the part to create a touch-up grade match. Unfortunately, there isn't an effective way to 'spec' the color well enough to produce a touch up without the part.

The 11oz spray will cover about 20 square feet per coat. Keep in mind that it is difficult to gauge how much spray you'll need as it is highly dependent on how it is applied. It is better to have too much than run short.
