Pantone™ PMS 395 U

PMS 395 U is defined by Pantone as a visual reference standard, not a paint formula. When you compare a painted sample to a Pantone book, expect some difference due to sheen, substrate, and lighting. Pantone books are printed on paper with a specific finish, while paint is applied to real surfaces that reflect light differently.

For brand-critical work, the correct approach is to order a sample and evaluate PMS 395 U on the actual material and under the lighting where it will be used. This helps confirm visual acceptance rather than expecting an exact one-to-one match with the book.

PMS 395 U is available as custom spray paint and other paint formats for branding and display applications. Common options include spray paint, paint pens, and brush-in-cap bottles. Some coating types such as epoxy, urethane, or interior/exterior housepaint may also be offered depending on the application.

Choose the format based on how the color will be applied, the size of the area, and the level of control needed. Spray paint is typically used for even coverage on displays or panels, while paint pens or small bottles are better for detail work or controlled application.

Yes. The perceived appearance of PMS 395 U can change with surface texture. Smooth surfaces reflect light more evenly and often make the color appear cleaner and brighter. Textured or porous surfaces introduce shadowing and uneven reflection, which can make the same color look darker or less saturated.

Because PMS colors are judged visually, it is best to view a sample of PMS 395 U on the actual substrate and texture being used before final approval.

Basic surface preparation helps achieve consistent color and adhesion for PMS 395 U. Surfaces should be clean, dry, and free of dust, oils, or residues. Degreasing is recommended where handling or manufacturing oils may be present.

Light scuffing may be appropriate on smooth surfaces to improve adhesion, followed by cleaning. Always test a small area first to confirm appearance and coverage before committing to the full application.

Some manufacturers specify Pantone colors as touch up for their products, but Pantone does not work well as a proxy for a touch-up solution (for a litany of reasons such as it doesn't include sheen and Pantone color tolerances are not tight enough for touch up). When we match Pantone colors we are matching to a swatch in a Pantone book - not to your product.

The only way we can provide a touch-up solution for your product is for you send us a part. We would use the part to create a touch-up grade match. Unfortunately, there isn't an effective way to 'spec' the color well enough to produce a touch up without the part.

The 11oz spray will cover about 20 square feet per coat. Keep in mind that it is difficult to gauge how much spray you'll need as it is highly dependent on how it is applied. It is better to have too much than run short.
